» MetalJoe - 3 and 8 way Systems

Just had an e-mail from Steve Jones of Siamese this morning and thought I'd share this with you all as the subject is related to this month's article.

UK company Siamese (already making a name for theselves with hybrid Amiga/PCs, Linux boxes and Alpha NT/Linux systems) have just launched cases and bundled systems for those seeking to develop cheap Linux clusters and multi-platform systems.

The 3-way and 8-way cases can house a combination of motherboards, expansion cards and drive bay equipment (hard disks, floppy drives, zip disks, CD-ROM drive) in a nicely-styled case.

As well as empty cases, Siamese are offering Alpha motherboards for the cases, with a full 8-Alpha linux-cluster coming in at about 10000 GBP.

» Robin_Friedman - Cluster systems

Thanks for your message MetalJoe, Cluster Systems such as the Siamese 3 and 8-ways are really a form of parallel processing. It's not unlike the dual-processor Windows machines, although in Linux it's much easier to split tasks.

The only difference from the Siamese boxes and the linux cluster I talked about in my article is that one is all inside a box and the other is loose or in more than one box.

I can't tell you from experience Siamese's quality or ease of use, but I've been hearing good things about them.
