» MetalJoe - The rise of open source

Hi Robin,

Good to see Linux being discussed on Suite101.com - a good introductory article, by the way.

I'm editor for the Amiga section. While I've not used Linux (only its inspiration, MINIX), I do admit to having a salvaged 25 MHz 486SX running another free UNIX called NetBSD - and a very stable, fast and low-maintenance system it is too!

While Linux and other similar OS developments have a little bit more work to do before they become an acceptable choice for the average computer user, the big surge in interest for Linux has certainly helped open people's eyes to choice.

I look forward to reading future articles, and if I can be of any assiatcne, please let me know.

Regards,

» Lily1013 - Glad to see a Linux topic here!

I've been a Linux user on and off for a year now, so I was very happy to see this topic now being covered on Suite101.com. I'm looking forward to reading future articles!

» Robin_Friedman - Thanks!

Thanks for your comments!

What some people don't realize is that there's a large linux-using base for personal computers. Some other Unix systems I like are BSD, Minix, Sun, and more.

Right now I'm explaining Unix and Linux to non-techie people, later I might explain advanced use for people who already have it.

See you around!
