Over 3000 yards passing in 1997 with 25 TD's and only 10 interceptions! And this year's Central Florida offense looks better than last years! Four of the five starting offensive return.

Unless Central Florida has a huge season and (IMHO) cracks the top 10, then he's just out of luck.Chuck Bednar -- posted by Chuck » Robert - Chuck I agree UCF has to win (probably at least 9 games), b Chuck
Robert Smithers -- posted by Robert » JeffH_6 - Heisman Trophy Hype Sadly, the Heisman award today has been cheapened the same way as the national championship. The winner of thise once prestigeous award is determined pretty much by the same politically motivated, hero-worshiping sports writers and commentators who rank the teams and their recruiting classes. Consequently, more often than not, the best player in the country has little or no chance of receiving this award.A perfect example is Marshall's Randy Moss. In 1997 Moss was far and away the best college football player in America. This seemed to be the consensus of just about everyone from coaches to sports writers, to the man on the street. The television geneouses (ie. Lee Corso) even admitted as much on national television. However, they immediately followed by saying that Moss had no chance of winning the Heisman because he played for Marshall. Ovviously it makes no difference to any of these people that Marshall University is the winningest football program in the country in the decade of the nineties (hallowed Florida State is second). I would agree that Central Florida's Dante Culpepper is one of the finest college football players in America, as is Marshall's Chad Pennington. In fact these two are realistically the two best quaterbacks in the country. But who cares about what is real any more? Unfortunately money and politics dominate the game of college football just as they dominate just about everything else in our warped society today. Unless this situation changes (and it doesn't seem likely to) young men like Culpepper and Pennington will continue to be overlooked in favor of someone with half the talent who plays for one of the "big-time" schools. Forgive me for being a little long-winded here, but I have been wanting to get this off my chest for a long time. Thanks, and God bless. -- posted by JeffH_6
