This is an excellent article on the Dare to be Mediocre approach to basketball. Interesting how strategy has largely left the court and gone into salary caps and positioning ones team for the lottery. I guess this is a large part of why I've lost interest in any particular team. I enjoy watching the games but the players could all be nameless and teamless as far as I'm concerned, I'd just like for the sides to be evenly matched and actually trying to win. I trust there are a few actual lions for you to cover in Part 2.

Thanks cracker49. It is remarkable how much monetary considerations inform personnel decisions in the NBA. Actually, the league's incredibly strict rules regarding trades and the matching of player salaries forces general managers to focus on the financial aspect of deals.

I've become a fan more of individual players than franchises. I cheer for the teams that feature one of my favorite players or a collection of people I like. Once I start watching a game, or especially a playoff series, I always know who I want to win. Sometimes it even surprises me when I start cheering for a team I thought I hated.

I think the playoffs this year will be the most competitive in a long time, and it's hard to remain impartial with the intense environment of the postseason.

And yes, there are no less than six lions stalking the East at this time. We'll catch up with them next week.
