» Cracker49 - Re: Pardon our dust I completely agree with you regarding this misguided approach. I know it's unreasonable but I think teams should be held accountable for writing off a season or two in the interest of clearing the decks of the bad contracts they have given. What do you think is the solution?-- posted by Cracker49 » jprufrock - Re: Re: Pardon our dust In response to message posted by Cracker49:The league is really powerless to stop teams from doing things like this. Franchises are autonomous enough that they can do pretty much whatever they think serves their interests. The LA Clippers have kept payroll low and profits high for years under Donald Sterling, and all David Stern can do is plead with Sterling to pay more attention to the quality of his product. Atlanta has paid players in the past, even the recent past, before giving up this year, so they're not the league's worst culprit. An interesting update from today: Hawks guard Dion Glover asked for and was given his release from the team. Glover is not a star by any means but is a decent and respected player. The reasons behind this decision are unclear, but will undoubtedly be clarified when Glover lands on a new team and starts yapping about his misspent years with the Hawks. Whatever Glover has to say, it's a dubious start to the recruiting season for Atlanta. -- posted by jprufrock » thebattwoman - Re: Re: Re: Pardon our dust In response to message posted by jprufrock:Do you think Dallas are going to pay for the Van Exel, La Frentz trade? I don't see them as near a good a team as they were last season, especially without Exel. Did Nelson make a mistake? Watched Dallas and Kings last night - terrific and exciting game, always is when these two get together. And how about Doug Christie? Talk about a cracking season so far! -- posted by thebattwoman » jprufrock - Re: Re: Re: Re: Pardon our dust In response to message posted by thebattwoman:I think Jamison and Walker are redundant players for Dallas. I wish the Mavs would have done only the Boston trade to get rid of LaFrentz, but not the Golden State trade. Jamison is just unnecessary, and Dallas is still desperate for a center. It's amazing that Boston had Tony Battie available, and Golden State had Erick Dampier and Adonal Foyle, all serviceable centers, and Dallas made major trades with both teams without acquiring any of them. I see them losing in the first round this year. LA, Sacramento, Minnesota, and San Antonio are all much better teams, and even Memphis and Houston would give them a lot of trouble. -- posted by jprufrock
