» rubell - Good choices

You have written a well thougt out article and have chosen some exemplary players. Your article was touching at many levels and helps us to focus on the good that the NBA has rather than the lurid headlines of a few bad boys.

Excellent article. Nice that someone looks beyond the glitz and the headlines which are always (almost) focused on the negative. You changed my opinion of Penny, seems he may have a touch of humility after all. One question - Bonzi has always been one of my minor favorites, why the knucklehead label?

Cracker49:

Thanks for the kind words. I think Hardaway, while leaning towards the prissy side in the past, has been humbled and toughened quite a bit in recent years. He's among my favorite players, and is a big part of the Knicks' success.

As for Bonzi: as evidenced by past playoff performances against Kobe and the Lakers, Wells is good enough to dominate games with his low-post abilities. By the same evidence, however, Wells is flaky enough to get frustrated, lose focus, and often to disappear completely in crucial moments. Since joining the Grizzlies, his minutes are down, and he hasn't cracked the starting lineup once. It's unfortunate, as I enjoy Bonzi's style of play immensely, but I can't see him ever becoming a real star in the league.

However, his personality is what got him shipped out of Portland and earned him the label of knucklehead.

Check out these two links for details of Bonzi's hijinks (about halfway down each page).
