Hi Renie, I just had to stop by and tell you my daffodils are starting to bloom. I'm so tickled about them, too. Yes, the first bright yellow blooms have opened, the sun is shining, and I think spring is finally on the way! Oh, joy! LOL. I hope you're having a nice day, Renie. But you must be around Southern Ohio, cause both my daughter and friend Nancy, who are in North Eastern Ohio, tell me their daffs are out of the ground, but not blooming yet. Thanks for coming by. Just stopping in again to say I linked this to an article I'm publishing Tuesday at http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/3983... . My daffodil picture is quite dark compared to your sunny one. We had snow this morning before I took the picture! Crazy spring weather: sun, snow, ice, rain - typical western Washington spring - though the snow is a bit unusual.-- posted by jerrib

It seems as if I have lived and dreamed this poem every day of my life. Your article makes me want to lie down in bed of daffodils and just dream forever. It brought a smile and sigh of calmness into my heart.

Jonquil, of course, is the French name for the flower. The English name is daffodil, but I like the German name the best, "Osterglocke" which means "Easter bell," and, of course, that is the shape of the cup of a daffodil. To Germans, this flower is one of the symbols of Easter. What North Americans call "Easter lily" would never be brought into a German house, because of its poisonous scent. It is reserved for cemetary, as are many other white flowers.Funny thing, daffodils are poisonous to other plants, and you cannot mix them into a bouquet, but then I hate to pick them anyway, because they enhance the looks of a garden where few other flowers are blooming at that time of the year. Anyway, yellow is the prettiest color in any garden. They say that you should plant lots of yellow flowers in front of your house if you want to attract a house buyer.
