» jerrib - Absolutely Beautiful, Renie!

Your photos are gorgeous. I can hardly wait now to get a digital, now that I see just how much better they really take photos. Wow!

Appreciated all the good information, too. We have butterfly bushes here - mine are purple and I love them. One I water is about ten-feet high; two others are shrimps - they don't get watered. I can never get close enough to take a photo when butterflies visit. Maybe a new camera will help!

Putting wonderful ideas into my head, Renie!

Jerri

» Maryel - post processing

Lovely photos, renie, and interesting article. I am anything but a good photographer, but the secret, especially digital photos is post processing. If you save the photos as jpegs (jpgs) and get yourself a post photographing program. I use Photo impact from Ulead corp. It is very easy to use and it is miraculous what you can do to a photo. I post process all the photos in my articles. I have taken old photos of grandparents and great grandparents that were so faded, that you could barely see them and turned them into adequate photos.

I have learned new techniques and am continuing to learn with this program. I am definitely not an expert but if you send me a digital copy of the picuture of your grandfather i will see if I can make it better. Believe me it is amazing what you can do. With a descent printer you can make amazing copies as well. I have a photo quality Hewlett Packard. If you send the scanned photo, I will make hard copies and a digital version for you.

You can also make phtos bigger, smaller, crop, look like a painting or watercolour, You can add and take out people. marks and tears ( I am not too good at this yet) and crop the picture and take out red eye.
Later ME

Mary Ellen, I have Adobe Photoshop. That's what I use to resize the photos, turn them into jpg's, and I can make some improvements as well, like make it lighter or darker, etc. I'm not too good at doing any of that yet, but I'm learning. Your Photo Impact from Ulead Corp. sounds great. I also have a photo quality printer, but haven't printed out any of my new photos yet. I will try that later. Thanks for the offer to help. Appreciate it. And thanks for visiting, too. Renie

» Tricia_S - RE: great pictures

Hi Renie,

Love the pictures!

I consider myself to be a terrible photographer, but maybe I would have better luck with a digital camera. At least that way I could just delete the really awful ones.

I hope you will continue to share your digital pictures with us often. What fun!

Hi Tricia, so nice to see you again. I think you would have better luck with a digital. My photo's may not be outstanding yet, but I enjoy taking them.

Thanks so much for coming by. Take care. Renie

» Tina_Coruth - I love your photos!

Hi Renie,

I'm so glad you decided to do this article. I love your photos and the information about the flowers is an added bonus. I had no idea that 'hibiscus can grow as tall as 30 feet" -- wow! I think my favorite photo is the one with the butterfly. :-)

Thank you!
Tina

Hi Tina! Yes, in the wild, hibiscus can get pretty tall. Like a small tree. I have one that always stays indoors in the sunroom, and that one is 7 feet tall and still growing! Thanks so much for coming by. Hope you're doing great, Tina! Take care. Renie

Great photos, I am with Tina - the butterfly photo must have been hard to take. Thanks for passing on the tip about holding your breath, I must try it. When you get into your sixties, it is hard to stop those trembles

As always, I thoroughly enjoy your articles

» themos100 - Digital photography

A lovely article - thanks. I have also recently purchased my first digital camera and am just amazed at how its transformed my interest in photograpjy. The close-ups of flowers and insects are so easy to achieve, and you can take lots of shots and pick just the best.

I now find myself going on photography expeditions, choosing trips which I know will provide lots of opportunities to use the camera! I never did that before.
