» Red - awesome photos...

Renie, your photos are awesome - and this is your first attempt? You've done a terrific job.

Your article is wonderful too. I never knew that hibiscus had medicinal value. And the information about the other flowering beauties, including the butterfly was enlightening.

Your article made me yearn for the meadows and hills of the farm. We have wildflowers around her but they are no longer abundant. Man has used too many chemicals and the balance of the earth is not what it once was.

Take care my friend. Enjoy your woods and your beautiful flowers and wildlife. One day I hope to make it to the Ozarks. Talk to you soon...

Hi Renie,

What a nice article this is. I never realized that certain flowers had medicinal value. You certainly did a nice job with your digital camera. I'm sure I wouldn't have done that well. I'm debating getting one of those some time for my writing.

Take care, and nice job, as usual. I hope your summer is coming along well.

Shannon

Hi Mary, so nice to see you here this morning! I hope things are going well at home, and that that other problem about the copyright infringement will be righted!

I don't know if my photos are that good, but I am enjoying myself taking pictures. Lost of wildflowers around here now, and I love seeing them. I know you miss the meadows and hills of the farm you grew up on. I would miss it too, if I were away from it.

Thank you for your always nice comments. I hope you do make it to the Ozarks one day. Take care. I'll be in touch. Renie

» AnneWatkins - "high biscuits"

Hehehe, I heard someone refer to hibiscus this way once and it's stuck in my crazy mind ever since. ;)

What a fabulous article! You did a great job, and the pictures are wonderful!! I'm so happy you displayed the butterfly weed pic, along with the info. We have that plant here in profusion but I never knew what it was! And the butterfly perched there is so lovely and clear. You never cease to amaze me, with the amount of interesting information you manage to pack into each article. And now pictures, too! Cool. smile

Can't wait to see what else that digital camera of yours will capture. Thanks!

hugs,
Anne

Hi Anne, I like the "high biscuits" name, hehe. Cute. I think the butterfly weed is prominent at this time of the year in the more southern regions. I'm not sure if it grows more north. It is a beautiful "weed," and I have a whole row of them in one area, and it's always packed with butterflies. They love the plant. You must also have lots of wild bergamot in your area. Well, when I first moved here, I just went crazy learning about the herbs and wildflowers that grow around here. Now all that info is coming in useful. And yep, I love my new camera! Oh, I think I said that already, and several times. hehe. Thanks so much for coming by. Appreciate it! Hope it's not too hot in Alabama. It's heating up again in my area. Take care and stay cool. Renie

Hi again!

Yes, we have those same plants here, everywhere it seems! I love them. I've always refered to any of the blooming plants as flowers and my grandmother used to correct me by saying, "Those ain't flowers, they're weeds!" She didn't share my enthusiam. Hehe!

I think the yellow ones you pictured are especially pretty, and my mother-in-law used to call the trumpet shaped flowers 'cow itch'. Have you ever heard them called that before? I have no idea where that name came from.

Glad you're enjoying that camera so much! I'd love to have one myself. Maybe someday, when I write that bestselling book. Hahahah!

Take care, my friend, and have a lovely day. Try not to get overheated! It's hot and steamy here, but looks like we may have some cooling rain this afternoon.

Anne

Nice to see you again, Anne! I've never heard the trumpet creeper, or trumpet vine called "cow itch," but many of these weeds, oops, I mean flowers had common names, and usually for a good reason. Yes, the yellow ones are so abundant now, and I really like them. I know they're one of the wild sunflowers, and from my research, they may be the "Ash Sunflower," although, it's hard to tell for sure. Well, if you ever get a digital, you will love it. And they're not that expensive anymore!

Yes, we have some hot weather around for a few days, but you know, July really hasn't been all that bad this summer, and we're almost in August, so the real hot weather time is about over. Isn't the time just flying? Thanks again for stopping back. Talk to you soon! Renie

» Tom - Great Pics!

Hi Renie,

It certainly didn't take you very long to get acclimated to your new camera! You did a great job! It'll be nice to look at them again this winter, when everything's covered with the white stuff.......
