Heehee, okay, Donna! But a moth, no matter what its size, will never intentionally hurt you!

» silvan - my moth tale

Hi Renie,

When I was little we found a big cocoon on a twig of our mulberry tree. We brought it indoors so we could watch it emerge. It remained dormant all winter. Imagine our surprise late the following spring when a cecropia moth emerged! Over the years, we observed several of them this way and released them. It's no surprise we kept finding them: because the mulberry is the tree used in the silk industry. However, I regret I have never seen a live luna moth.

Hi Silvan, oh, that must have been great, to watch the cecropia moth emerge from the cocoon! I seem to have a lot of luna moths. I saw another one last evening. I will try and find a cocoon this fall. I read that the luna larvae can be found around black walnut trees, and I have several of those.

Thanks so much for coming by. Appreciate it.

» earlytimes - butterfly

Hi Renie,

Your story reminded me of a day a long time ago when I was a boy. I was watering the the lawn and looked down and saw the last stages of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. I was fascinated. Thanks for the great story and the recharged memory.
