» Mountain_lady - Toads and Frogs

Oh I love the little critters. I have ever since I was a little girl. My brother and I would turn on the porch light at night so the bugs would come and then we would watch for the toads. We had toad farms under the house and toad ranches out at the barn. Down here, "frog giging" is a nighttime sport for a lot of the men folk. That's when they go after the giant bull frogs found in ponds and creeks. What a tasty treat!
Thanks Renie, I printed your article out so I could read it to my grandsons. It is very interesting.

Hi Mountain Lady! So nice to see you here. I bet you can't wait until spring, so you can listen for them in your new home in the mountains. I know I can't wait to hear them again. Toad farms, eh? Neat idea.

Thanks so much for visiting. Hope you're enjoying this beautiful weekend we're having. I know I am. And I hope your grandson enjoys the article as well. Take care!

» AnneWatkins - frog teeth :-D

I never knew frogs had teeth. LOL! What a great article, Renie! Thanks so much, I really enjoyed it. Brought back some memories, too. When we were kids, my brother and I played with toads all summer long. And I can remember my uncles going frog gigging. I would watch the frog legs skitter around in the big old iron skillet when Grandma Linnie cooked them for breakfast. What funny things to remember. smile

Seems like our toads have started to disappear in the last few years. A while back we could sit on our front porch and count lots of toads while they climbed our steps to join us on the porch. For the last couple of summers there have been hardly any toads at all. Too bad.

Thanks for the fun, very informative article. smile

Hi Anne! Well, even I was surprised to find out frogs had teeth, as I was researching. I was fond of toads, too, as a kid, and used to watch our resident stork make a meal of frogs down at the bog. Oh, did you eat the frog legs? I have never tried them, but one of my sons likes them.

Yes, both frogs and toads seem to bee dimishing, although, as I wrote in the article, last summer I saw a number of them. I hope Fred comes back to the garden this year. I picture him hibernating, dreaming of beef and liver chuncks! Hehe.

Thanks so much for coming by. I'll be replying to your email soon! Take care.

» Tina_Coruth - I didn't know frogs have teeth!

Hi Renie,

I didn't know frogs have teeth! I can't wait to tell my grandson, Zach. I know he will be as fascinated by this as I am. My favorite frogs are the tree frogs -- spring peepers. I love to listen to them. Alas, it will be some time before I hear them. We just had a Nor'Easter dump 2 1/2 feet of snow on us!

This is a great article. I enjoyed it very much!

Renie, this article is delightful. What a wonderful addition to the Nature's Treasures Event.

Like Tina, I didn't realize frogs had teeth until I read your article. I should have. My brother and I have caught enough of them in our day. LOL

My favorite is the bullfrog. We would sit on Grandma's porch of an evening and listen to the frogs that lived just across the road in the creek. It meandered through our neighbor's property. You could hear them for miles it seemed. Of course Grandpa's farm had a creek too, a larger one, that wasn't that far from the house in the opposite direction.

Now, when I hear bullfrogs, I am reminded of that time so long ago. Pleasant memories go with the sound of these huge frogs.

Thanks again for submitting to the Nature's Treasures Event. Your articles are always so delightful.

I am jealous of the beautiful weather you are having. Yesterday it rained and last night it snowed a little. I can't believe you have crocus and even Iris growing in your garden. It will be 8 weeks before our crocus appears and late April or early May before we see Iris.

Take care and have a great week.

Hi Tina! I love the peepers too, and from the weather we're having, we should be hearing them any night now. I was in town today, and saw several people walking around in shorts! I suppose after the arctic weather of December, 68 F is tropical, but still, shorts already? Hehe.

Thanks for visiting, Tina. Always enjoy your comments. Say "Hi" to Zach for me, and enjoy all that snow. It must be beautiful.

Hi Mary, well, I guess frogs' teeth are so tiny, no one realizes they have them. I love the bullfrogs as well, and love the loud racket they make at the pond, in the warm months. Yes, crocuses are up in my yard, as are irises and daffs. It's like spring today, and as I mentioned to Tina, I was surprised to see people walking around in shorts today. We always get an early spring, and always pay for it later, when summer arrives and is unbearable. Oh well, whatever will be, will be. Thanks for coming by. Appreciate it much. I'm having a wonderful week, and there are several reasons for that! Have a wonderful week yourself.

Renie, I read and wrote and it said: Submit comments or Bug Report. Now I come onto the POST NOW.

So I'll write another report-- My other two are lost in OUTER Cyberlink. I know your granddaughter will tell her classmates that she's on the Internet and have them read your article.
Most informative article. My IQ on frogs and toads is 0. But I'll have more respect for the next ones I see this coming summer'
You get A++ for your title. I like it.
Looking forward to your next article. Garnet
