Hi Carma, thanks so much for coming by. Yes, the drought may have been detrimental to the little critters, but I also read that they are really dimishing, and they're not quite sure why. However, I had lots of them around last summer.

Carma, I really appreciate your visit, and hope you will return. Take care.

» ahunter - Toads and Frogs

Renie, what an informative and fun article about toads and frogs!

I wish I had known as a child how one developed a relationship with a toad. Back when I was about ten, some friends and I discovered one. I don't remember if we found in the woods and took him back to my place or if we found him in my yard. Eventually though, he hopped away into the yard and disappeared. I don't think he had much fun with us!

This past spring, a friend and I became enraptured with a pond full of frogs at a nearby wildlife park. We'd walk along the shore, watching them jump into the pond. We'd also just sit and wait for them to stick their heads above the water. Eventually, they always did. Then we'd just sit and wait for them to jump into the pond. We were amazed at how still they could be! Aside from observing the wolves, I think visiting the frogs remains my favorite haunt at the nearby wildlife park.

Hi Allyson, thanks so much for visiting and the delightful comment. Yes, it's kind of funny the way frogs do that. They jump in, and then suddenly, a bunch of little frog heads come to the surface to check out the situation. I love watching for that too.

By the way, did you end up getting the little pig? I hope so. Thanks again for visiting. Take care.

» claymania - "Hoppies"

Hi Renie,
Sorry to be so late in reading your new article, but my time seems not to have been my own in the last few weeks.
Truly enjoyed your frog and toad article. Several frogs seem to thrive in my little Japanese garden pond, as well as in the large lake. Carina refers to them as "hoppies" and loves sneaking up on them when they are sunbathing on the rocks surrounding the pond. She'll laugh hysterically when they all leap into the safety of the water, then quietly watch as they return to their sunbathing spots. Like you, I love the sounds they make, and only wish we were farther along in our winter months, and closer to their return! I must say, I've never heard of anyone actually feeding a toad, but will definitely give it a shot next summer!
Take care, and thanks for another enjoyable read, Nancy

Hi Nancy! Nice to see you here again. I've missed you. Hoppies love to sunbathe. Hope spring will be coming soon. It's colder here today as well, but warming up again by tomorrow. I can live with that. hehe. But can't wait for real spring. Yes, toads like little treats. I discovered this accidentally. Try it and see. Thanks so much for visiting, and your nice words. Take care as well.

Thanks for the education on frogs and toads!
I now will be able to tell the difference when
one of the kids brings one in the house = )
Sure hope you find another Fred this year to
keep the pesky bugs away.

» kcruver - Dog food!

What a funny idea--a toad eating dog food! I'd never thought much about the differences between toads and frogs. They both certainly seem to have their charms though. So did the smuggled frog make it back to the city? Or was he found before the trip home? I can see how a little frog could seem like a very appealing pet for a city kid!

I loved the article--so much information and, as always, the stories were great. Thanks Renie!
