Nature's Timeless Giants: RedwoodsRead the article this discussion is about
This archived discussion is "read only". » Monni - Redwoods Hi, Renie!I enjoyed reading your article about the redwoods. I am fortunate to have seen these giants in Yosemite National Park. Although I had read about them and seen pictures, still I was absolutely amazed at seeing them in person. They are truly awe-inspiring. Have you read any books by John Muir? I thoroughly enjoyed reading many years ago his books, especially A Thousand-Mile Walk To the Gulf and Story of My Boyhood and Youth. He was such an influence in preserving the redwoods for all of us to enjoy. Keep on entertaining and informing us. It's on my list of things to see, and soon! Yes, I have read several of John Muir's books. I love his writing. And yes, he was a great influence on preserving the redwoods. He loved them, and he loved the Sierra Nevada mountains. Thanks so much for the nice posting, Monni. I appreciate it much. Stop by again soon! Renie -- posted by Renie_Burghardt » humaniac - Redwoods Hi Renie,I just got this year's fruitcakes in the oven, where they will remain for the next three to three and a half hours. Finally, I get to take a time out and read your articles. I love this one, and having been raised only ten miles from Muir Woods, the Redwoods are dear to me. Your article was very informative, and a wonderful read. I will finish the bracelet I'm working on sometime tonight; it's a special bracelet for a special girl. Take care, Jan -- posted by humaniac » Renie_Burghardt - Re: Redwoods In response to message posted by humaniac:Hi Jan! Wow, ten miles from Muir Woods. How lucky for you. Thanks so much for the visit and nice words. I didn't know fruitcakes take that long to bake! But I do know that that special girl will love the bracelet. Thanks so much. Take care. Talk to you soon. Your article made them come alive so that I almost felt as if I was there, looking up into the treetops (the photo helped, too!).Thanks, Renie, for sharing your insights. -- posted by SheriMcGregor » Renie_Burghardt - Re: giants of the world In response to message posted by SheriMcGregor:Hi Sheri, and thank you for the lovely message. I appreciate the visit. Take care! Renie -- posted by Renie_Burghardt » earlytimes - Redwoods Hi Renie. I know how majestic the Redwoods are because I live at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and I have seen the Giant Redwoods in California. I drive to Lake Tahoe about four times a year and I am always taken by the deep blue of that alpine lake and by the knowledge that almost all the trees around the lake were cut down in the later part of the nineteenth century to make timbers for the silver mines in Virginia City, Nevada, but they all grew back. It must be awesome to see them in person. Yes, nature can undo the damage, and now the redwoods are protected, I believe. Thanks so much for the comment.
