I had to share a room with my sister who was only an infant (and I had reached the ripe old age of 13!) She went to bed very early and I have always been a late night person - so I was quite sure fireflies were the answer to my lighting problem.Maybe if I had been able to catch thousands of them it would have worked. -- posted by CarolWallace » Renie_Burghardt - Hmm, I bet if you had collected enough of them, I mean like a jar full, I bet you would have gotten a nice glow from them. At least as good a glow as a candle.-- posted by Renie_Burghardt » KimHan - Hi Renie! It's me again. LOL. We were at the house yesterday, and Mandy sat under the willow with her little tape recorder and do you know, she managed to record a cricket chirping. So last night, she had it playing in her room and fell asleep to it. It was so cute. We'll be moving soon, since the lady who sold us the house is already gone. I can't wait. Have a great day, Renie! Kim -- posted by KimHan » Renie_Burghardt - Hi Kim, you know, Nichole does that when they come to visit. She records the nightime serenade and then listens to it at home, in bed. She says it helps her fall asleep. It's such great news about the house. Maybe you'll get in before school starts. Thanks for stopping by. Always love to see you here. Fortunately, I'm not a rocket scientist -- the rockets would never get off the ground. I forgot when I changed my name in my signature, it changes it everywhere I have left a post. So you found me out! LOLI'll be back again. Take care. -- posted by Tina_Coruth » Renie_Burghardt - Hi TINA! Nice to meet you!I like it, Christina, only I have to get used to it. hehe. So glad you stopped by. Things have been quiet around here. I guess it's summer and everyone is vacationing or something. Hope things are going well for you and yours. I was outside chasing a deer with a big, red tomato in her mouth, and I got pretty hot under the collar. Bad deer! Thanks for stopping by. It was a pleasant surprise. Renie, with the same old name. You really capture the essense of the region in your writing. Over here in the Desert Southwest, on rare occasion, I've seen a little flash of light on the ground in certain places, quick and subtle, maybe once or twice a season. I found the source to be little worms about a half inch long! No lightening bugs seen yet, but I'm always looking. Thank you for sharing your writing, I know now where to go on the web when I long for some excellent home-cooked Ozarks Nature Writing! Enjoy the wonderful Missouri Ozarks Fall!! ;) -Dean-- posted by silverhogan » Renie_Burghardt - Hi Dean!! So nice to have you here. I do indeed enjoy Fall in the Ozarks. It's the best! Maybe those little glowing worms were glow worms, which are the juveniles of lightning bugs. I don't know though. I have read that lightning bugs are scarce in the west.Dean, from my visit to your Themestream topic, I saw that you're in a beautiful, pristene wilderness area, and I truly envy you. Luckily, I can enjoy some of it through your words and awesome pictures. Thanks so much for the visit. I enjoyed your comments, and hope to see you here again. Until then, enjoy Nature in the beautiful Southwest!
