» marjac - Morning Sickness
Great article! Something that helped me through morning sickness was lemons. The smell and even the taste helped settle my stomach. I became the Lemon Queen! Sometimes I squeezed them into ginger ale and other times I just sliced them up and ate them!-Margaret

In response to message posted by marjac:I enjoyed sour things too, Margaret. And you know what also helped me, and many other women I've worked with? Eating! I know it sounds weird, because when you're sick you just think you'll gag if you put anything in your mouth.
But what I learned is that eating high protein foods regularly keeps the blood sugar at a more even keel, and wards off nausea. So now, if I get even the slightest bit queasy I take it as a sign that my blood sugar is dropping below acceptable levels and I eat something high protein, like nuts or even a glass of milk, or cheese... but better yet a small meal, like a sandwich and milk.
Since I learned this little trick, I've had only minor nausea in three subsequent pregnancies (in the first one it was terrible!!), and only actually tossed my cookies about a half a dozen times between all three!! Now I tell everyone, and everyone who sincerely tries it is helped by it.
But I think the hardest thing is getting past the idea of pregnancy sickness being like the flu. Because when you have the flu you really can't eat, and it makes you feel worse. But with morning sickness, if you eat BEFORE you even get nauseated then you won't be as likely to get sick. (Of course, if you wait until the nausea is really bad, then this isn't going to work! Then it's too late already!)
I hope this helps someone!!!
