- Parenting by Heart
Welcome Sara, and thank you for bringing a much needed topic to Suite. Both my children are grown so I've "been there and done that". Perhaps a little on the independent side myself, I listened very little to others' advice. I rarely did "what I was supposed to do". I always trusted my love for my kids to know what was best, all the way up to and including homeschooling for 10 years (at a time when it was even more controversial than now). The best advice I can offer is to teach by example, love them no matter what, and trust them enough to support them through whatever comes along, including their dreams and desires. Parents know their children better than anyone else, so follow your heart and give very little weight to what others say. Now three decades later, both my son and daughter are upstanding, intelligent, trustworthy, responsible, hardworking people who are my best friends. Can you tell I'm proud of them?
