Funny - I had a mostly Siamese black cat who used to play hockey on my wood floors with a crumbled cigarette pack - and he did it at 1:30 every morning. And Nell, who is notnormally affectionate, usually shooses that as the hour when she decides to leap into my lap and then drip all over my mousepad so that I can't accomplish anything.

My orange cat, Kelsey, however, goes to bed rather early - midnight or so - and while she may get up a few times at night, she is almost always exactly where I left her in the morning.

I don't know when mine were born either. Like yours, they more or less found me.

Traute,
What an interesting and thought provoking article! I haven't quite figured out how I fit in, but the possibility exists that I am working with erronous information.
According to my mother I was born at 1 am, perhaps this accounts for the fact that I get wide awake in the morning and stay wide awake in the evening? I was never able to take a nap; it just makes me groggy for the rest of the day.
My cats do have "lap-time" early in the evening, when I sit down to watch TV or read, taking turns, during the night Trico goes outdoors, she does not like to spend nights in the house, the other two have their own spots, but do move around and get "busy" around four am.

Hi Traute,

I have no idea what time I was born, and as it is almost 1am in New Zealand right now, I don't imagine my mother would be too impressed if I rang her now to find out!

What has captured my attention in your article is the cat leash by-law. Surely you are kidding? Surely no council could possibly expect people to walk cats on a leash. What a foreign concept! Cats are designed to prowl around by themselves, surely!

Lynda, Believe it or not, lots of American cities have also passed a leash law for cats. They had just passed it in Iowa City when I left - and I was glad to be leaving since I could never have put my poor cat on a leash after he had been accustomed to roaming free.

Well Traute, I have always considered myself a morning person, although since I've been cruising the internet at night, I've become more of a night person and less of a morning person. Hubby is a night owl and it may have rubbed off on me.

Maybe I was mistaken about being a morning person though as this night stuff has been fairly easy to slip into. Unfortunately my child is a morning person though, so I have to limit my nights to 11 or 12. I was born at 7:30am. So I don't know if my morning personess was unnatural for me and forced on me by society or that I have just adjusted to night hours due to hubby and the internet. Your article would suggest that I should be a night person, so I'll have to pay more attention to this issue in my life. I do know that I like 9 hours of sleep, but generally only get 7 hours.

I have received several emails from people who have not yet learned how to post on Suite 101. They all told me that their birth hour and sleep hour coincide precisely.

The cat leash law has caused the rodent population to explode in Winnipeg even though it has only been in effect since April. The exterminators advocated the law in hopes of making more money, but they are now throwing their hands up in despair, because their work is totally ineffective. I understand that Calgary is repealing the same law, because they can no longer cope with the rodents.

Veterinarians are reporting strange behavior in cats. They are becoming agressive towards their owners as a reaction to being confined.

Dusty got hurt badly last week by some boys who seem to have hit her with something, wounding her by her left eye. If she had not been on a leash that would not have happened. And I was only a few feet away. She is doing all right now. The wound has healed, the swelling is down and she can open her eye again. She still hides from everyone except her immediate family.

I don't have any cats, just a dog. I still found the article fasinating. I think I'll save it, in case I do get a cat or two or three....

Betts - if you could stay up til 6 a.m. - do you think that would be your favorite bedtime??

If I could, I'd probablynever go to bed willingly- but on the other hand, I never get up very willingly, either.

Betts, this certainly explains why you are awake when we email to each other in the evening while I don't know what I am talking about. It also explains why some of the emails you write early in the morning are not too intelligible.
