» biogardener - taken at the official opening of the Beatitudes show

Winnipeg, MB, Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery, official opening November 26, 2004, show running till January 8, 2005.

Sorry about the color of the pictures. I did not get a chance to take pictures in sunlight where they would be showing true color, because it was raining cats and dogs the week when I finished them and had to hand them in. I adjusted the color in PhotoShop as best as I could. Imagine the walls white.

  1. Jesus seeing the multitude, sat down on a mountain to teach them.
  2. Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.
  3. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
  4. Blessed are the persecuted for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  5. Rejoice and be glad for great is your reward in heaven.

Traute, I will have to take your word about the color because you know, but they all look lovely to me. I agree with Dar about #4, and in addition, I think the lavender in the sky is stunning. And, of course, I love the children in a circle. So sweet. Will they go on sale after the art show? Thank you for sharing these lovely photographs of your work with us. V.

» biogardener - Sale

The pictures are on sale only as a set for $800 of which the gallery gets 20%.

Here are the answers to some of the other questions which people have asked me by email.

Re "blessed are the merciful:" The merciful person is extending mercy to the little people which are too difficult to make out in the photo but clear in the actual picture. In the same way, God is extending mercy to him. The arms of God have the same position to him as his arms to others.

Re the skies: In German, the words for sky and heaven are the same as they are in most languages. The sky therefore represents the kingdom of heaven, and the colors start with blue in the horizon deepening into royal purple the higher up you get and the more you suffer, i.e. the right picture has the most purple.

The sun represents God, that is why the head of Jesus is a sun and so are the heads of the people because they are created in God's image. The pure in heart are fashioned from the heart of God which is superimposed over the sun in the third picture. You have to look hard to see that in this small picture, because I did not want it to stick out like a sore thumb.

Thank you for sharing your artwork, Traute. I'm sure the art is even more stunning when you are looking at the actual pieces. You are inspiring me to get out my drawing pad!

» biogardener - Start sketching, Jerri!

Start sketching, Jerri. You should see the pages of sketches which I did for those 5 paintings to see what works. I did them all during Sunday sermons. I can only sit and listen when I have something to do with my hands.
