» jkoberlein - Waldorf Education Great article, Lara! I'm so interested in using more Waldorf-inspired techniques with my son now and as he grows up. I have some friends who have asked me questions about Waldorf ed., and now I can pass along to them your article site for more info. Thanks,Julia -- posted by jkoberlein » Kristen Cardozo - A couple of questions My mother was once offered a teaching job at a Waldorf school, but despite this, I don't know much about the system. I myself was educated in the Carden method, which I haven't heard much about in recent years, and I am considering sending my son to a Montessori school. I am considering home-schooling in the future, and Waldorf sounds interesting. What are the differences between Waldorf and Montessori? Is one to be preferred over the other? One of the only details I remember of my mother's job offer was that she would be called by her first name, something she generally preferred, but was uncertain of in this context. I have also heard a name, woman's name, bandied about in home schooling circles. I cannot remember the name, just that the woman was English and that many of her methods sounded similar to Maria Montessori's and to Dr. Steiner's. There was a strong emphasis on Christianity, however, which my husband and I would handle quite differently. Anyway, I don't expect you to have all of the answers to this. I guess I'm just trying to place everything in as much context as I can. Ultimately, we're working on our instincts anyway, and all the 'methods' in the world can only serve as useful outlines. Actually, all of these methods sound similar to those of various Greek philosophers. Thank you for your illuminating article, and if you can further illuminate the differences between different types of education, I'd be grateful.Thank you, -- posted by Kristen Cardozo
