» H2O - At "The Mile" My father-in-law was at "The Mile" for this race. His company, Rockwell Automation, sponsers the Mike Bliss car (owned by Joe Gibbs). Surprisingly, Bliss did well this race. He would have done better had he had all the lug nuts on when he left the pits (he had to return to have the missing lug put on).Great topic--welcome back! John -- posted by H2O » Tom - Re: At "The Mile" In response to message posted by H2O:Hey John, Mike Bliss, the 2002 Craftsman Truck Series Champion, is a class act. I was hoping to see him succeed this year in the Busch Series, but those cars are hard to handle, and it takes a couple of years experience to get used to them at the different venues. We watched Mike at Nazareth last month, he was doing great and was very competitive. BUT… The pit road entrance at Nazareth is very tricky, the entrance road is right at the pinnacle of the entrance to turn three. When you reach the breaking point to shift the car's weight for the corner, you have to be in position to also enter the pit road if that is your goal. If you are in the main racing groove, it can't be done. The driver has to hug the edge of the track by the infield and plan ahead to enter the pit entrance road. It appeared that Bliss decided too late that he was going into the pits for service and ended up shifting the car's weight too far out in the track and missed the pit road entrance and ended up in the wet grass, sliding across the track into the turn three wall on lap 142 of 200 laps. I have pictures of the wreck on my "aroundthetrack.net" web site. That was the end of Mike's racing at Nazareth, as that was the last Busch Series race at that venue. They are closing the track after the IndyCar Firestone 225 race this coming August. I hope to be there for that one also, we were there last August and the event was awesome. The Indy cars are a much better race than any NASCAR event I've ever been to. -- posted by Tom
