» Tom - Kevin Harvick and Busch..........

Hi Lili..... I just thought I'd stop by and say "hello."

As most of you know, Kevin Harvick was slated to run the full Busch schedule this season for RCR. He was also slated to drive the No. 30 racecar for five races this season in Winston Cup. I think Richard Childress made a very wise decision in hiring Kevin Harvick. He has loads of potential to become a future Cup champion. And, at least he is "supposed" to be driving in the Busch series this season.

There is still a lot of controversy going on again this season about Cup drivers entering Busch races, and taking the meat out of the stew for the regular Busch series drivers. I don't feel that this is anything that NASCAR has the capability to address. I think that this is entirely a sponsor related issue, and NASCAR's hands are tied on this one. When a corporate sponsor puts up the bucks for a race team, whether it be Cup or Busch, they have every right to seek out the best driver for their money. A lot of folks complained when Mark Martin drove for Winn Dixie. Mark was a Cup driver who dominated the Busch series, but he was also the best driver that Winn Dixie could hire to help sell their name, meats, etc.

I believe that if NASCAR lowers the boom on sponsors who want to hire cup drivers to drive in the Busch series, they'll be driving these corporate sponsors away. With the economy in the shape it's in these days, NASCAR needs all of the sponsors it can muster to keep it going. A lot of sponsors who find success in the Busch series, eventually move up into Cup. This is what sweetens the pot for NASCAR, drivers, teams, and subsequently, race fans.
