» Giants02122 - Not so fast on the Busch Series...

I don't think that the Chase would work as well as it did in NASCAR NEXTEL CUP. Being that Carl Edwards is going to attempt to run boht CUP and NBS this year, and most likely next year I just don't see where this would work. The numbers would be much bigger (since Treux Jr. will run away with the championship) and after he leaves the sport will be looking for stardum. I think that this year will be the proving year if we need this Chase format in the NBS or CTS for that matter.

Compared to the Cup Series, the Busch Series Championship battle left a lot to be desired. The chase would bring about a chance for some of the Busch Series drivers who have been shut out by the Cup driver's competition to compete. The way I'd set it up is that if a Cup driver wasn't competing the entire season in Busch, then he couldn't compete in the Busch Series chase.

I think you missed the point about the point's disparity in the Busch Series standings because of the way the Cup drivers affect the points of the regular Busch Series competitors. The chase in the Busch Series would give the Busch regulars a better chance. Look for the chase to be part of the Busch Series package in 2006!

I think bringing the Chase format to the NBS is an excellent idea. To handle the points disparity NASCAR should add a stipulation that teams must compete in 80% of the scheduled races to be eligible to run in the Busch Chase.

Rather it be the Chase or something else, NASCAR has to do something to help NBS regulars stay competitive and have a fair chance at purse money. Cup regulars consistently take the top finishing positions in many of the NBS races, that’s money desperately needed by the smaller Busch teams.

I’ve always thought NASCAR should consider handicapping Cup regulars with a 2 lap penalty or charge the teams and drivers for a test session for each NBS event run. After all most of the cup drivers use the NBS race to get a feel for the track under race conditions, and use the data collected to improve their Cup programs.
