» Dantessa - Re: Fascination with Nantucket Thank you, Tom! That's very kind of you and I appreciate it.Nantucket definitely does have literary allure. Are you familiar with the whaleship Essex (of Nantucket)? Its story is the real life inspiration for Moby Dick. I was fortunate enough to be in Nantucket when the latest greatest book about the Essex hit the shelves, and they had a truly haunting and tastefully done display in the Nantucket museum, all about the Essex and how it inspired Moby Dick. So that's a bit of literary history right there! -- posted by Dantessa » Sunbear - Re: Re: Fascination with Nantucket In response to message posted by Dantessa:Hi Dina, Yes, I was familiar with Essex and Moby Dick. I was quite a fisherman when I was a kid and I read a lot of books that mentioned Nantucket in one way or another. Of course, many Northeastern literary figures mention Nantucket, such as the poet, Edna St. Vincent Millay. BTW, I have subscribed to your topic. Tom -- posted by Sunbear
