» Car - I'd like to believe

Perhaps it is a story that has been blown out of proportion. What story hasn't? History has a tendency to distort. After all, history is written by the victors.

But even still, I'd like to believe there is a King Arthur and Camelot. I think it's a beautiful gift from our past to have such a rich story that so many can relate to.

Hi Car,

Sorry for the delay in my response. I'm still getting settled into my new home, so I'm not on the computer much these days. smile
I too would like to believe that Camelot existed. People tend to need a time of glory to look back on, so the Arthurian legends fill that need quite nicely.

» syringa - your version or mine?

Hallo Linda,

I am just wandering around Suite101 now, so I have only just read this article. I hope you don't mind my throwing in a comment this late. I am fascinated by all these myths, and I think it is great that you are presenting them here. Keep up the good work! However, as a pagan, I am afraid I will always prefer to believe Marion Zimmer Bradley's version of what happened; I know it in itself is fiction, but I like to think that in the true spirit of the story she has unearthed something closer to the truth. After all, Christians were primarily in the business of retelling history to suit their own purposes in those days, weren't they?

Anyway, I will look forward to reading the rest of this series!

blessed be,
Syringa

Hi Syringa,

I agree with you. smile The Arthurian Legends are all really based on earlier pagan tales. Christians got a hold of them and gave them a "Holy" twist to present their own moral ideals.
The Holy Grail for instance is just a re-telling of the great magic cauldrons from Celtic myths.
Thanks for taking the time to read and post!

» Debbie - Mysts of Avalon

You are talking about the book "The Mists of Avalon" are you not? I have that book and it is very big. I have tried to read it completely through three times now. I got as far as the last chapter and never got to read the end for one reason or another. I too believe in this account better. I am so into King Arthur that I had a BBS (way before Websites) by the name of King Arthur's Castle and I being the Sysop (system operator) was Lady Guinevere. I still have that name and people still call me that sometimes. She is a part of me (no I'm not dual personalities). I have roots in Wales and I have read several accounts as to archeologist who have found places that are of King Arthur's era. I choose to believe that there was a King Arthur and a Queen Guinevere. I would be much interested in keeping updated on these stories.
