Unispired? A church with just one steeple?

I'll bet you mean uninspired...

Teeheeee!

Whoops! Thanks for the heads-up. Duly noticed and edited. I'll be so happy when I get my computer fixed and not have to rush out my articles on the local library computers.

How does an uninspired songwriter become inspired. I mean some things inspire me to write certain things but it never ends up the way I wanted it to be. For instance if I started out writing a song about say a summer romance I end up writing a song about the misery of death. So I guess my question is how do you write about what you want to when you aren't really inspired by it? I guess Im just a confused struggling songwriter. I guess!!!

Hey, you wrote a song! That's the important part. You can always just edit it into something else later--you are never stuck with an arrangement or a lyric you wrote, even if you copyright it--you may just have to fill out a little more information, but you can still change it. If you are just stuck in a funky mood for now, go with it! At least you are writing, and staying in shape musically. You will feel even worse if you think you haven't done a thing in forever.

You can always just fake it for now, too. Think about writing about someone you see somewhere if you can't put yourself in the first person position. Write about what you see on a television show, and how people in love are dealing with their feelings. Sometimes just being a reporter for a bit keeps you using the right language and mood until you feel that way yourself again. Write about family members, friends or people you know at work or in a book you liked. Actually, there is a great need for "filk" songs, which are original lyrics about some fan subject placed over a popular tune--check them out on the web if you want some ideas--this could be a fun outlet for you if you are a fantasy or scifi buff. Some folks might get a kick out of filk tune based on "Desperate Housewives," though, rather than something from Lord of the Rings.

Hope this helps at least a little. Feel free to post more about this--I'm sure others would find it informative, and maybe we can get a real discussion going here.
