» Susie_Q - Karen Stafford Editor, Flutes and Flute Playing What a wonderf Karen StaffordEditor, Flutes and Flute Playing What a wonderful, neat idea! It does help spark interest when a student has a hand in what goes on in their instruction, and in making one's own guitar......well, you can't have much more of a hand than that! Plus, it's another good way of introducing a field of music that many kids don't consider: that of instrument building or repair. Anything that can help students see that the world of music is beyond what they hear on the radio or what is taught in school. And I can just imagine the pride those kids felt when something they made with their own hands actually produced music. -- posted by Susie_Q » Deborah_Jeter - So true, Karen. Very valid points, indeed. Besides all of the th So true, Karen. Very valid points, indeed. Besides all of the things that you mentioned, I like the fact that the kids would probably have a deeper feeling of ownership than if they were just renting an instrument to learn by. It's more personal to them and I would imagine that they would take more pride in an instrument that they built, taking better care of it and all.I think this is a great idea and since the guitar comes in a kit, and basically all that is needed is glue, it would be less trouble to construct something that, in my opinion, which will last longer and have more of a quality sound than so many other homemade instruments that many music teachers have made with their students. It certainly seems like it would be much less of a hassle in clean-up too. ;-) (know what I mean?)
