A reminder to all you folklorists...this year is the 50th anniversary of the copyright of Ruth Crawford Seeger's AMERICAN FOLK SONGS FOR CHILDREN. I have written a synopsis of its beginnings and philosophies for the Spring issue of the Kodály Envoy (due in late May). Northeastern University professor Judith Tick has written a wonderful biography on Seeger entitled, RUTH CRAWFORD SEEGER: A COMPOSER'S SEARCH FOR AMERICAN MUSIC (Oxford Univ. Press, 1997)
