» smilingwolf - MS and Body Image I just wanted to thank you, Pamela, for a great article. I've just recently been diagnosed, but have been fatigued for the last three years. I used to be very athletic and in great shape. Between full time work sitting in front of a computer all day, and sleeping, my body has changed drastically, and it's been very frustrating. Your article made me feel as if I'm not alone in this. My doctors insist that I continue to exercise, but not fatigue myself. The balance has been difficult to find.I too am struggling with body image and self acceptance. Thank you for your insights and calming words. Smiling Wolf -- posted by smilingwolf » loveisjoy - Keep Smiling Smiling Wolf (love that name!):I'm glad you found the article helpful. MS can trigger so many emotions and changes in both subtle and obvious ways. Learning to accept my limitations and still love my body has been a bit of a challenge for me. But I figure I'm a work-in-progress anyway. So I'll keep trying, and keep striving for full self-acceptance. And, I'll keep smiling. :-) Thanks for the post! -- posted by loveisjoy » mamabarrel - words of wisdom thank you so much for a wonderful article....my best friend has ms and i was her caretaker for 18 months. unfortuantely, she has progressive ms, but she still feels the need to control everything and everybody around her. she has finally learned to accept the changes in her body.....not an easy task considering she has a masters degree in nursing, was a captain in the air force AND was director of wellness at the university of florida! i can't wait to show her your article tomorrow.....-- posted by mamabarrel » vemartin - She Makes me Proud My perception of My Love’ body is very different from her own. Yes I see the limp, and yes I have witnessed the shaking spells and fatigue that sometime quickly overtake her like a sudden rain storm in spring, and yes I have witnessed the cold spells and hot spells, and listened to her complain that part of her body has gone numb, or is tingling, or is in severe pain. But what I see when I look at my dear wife is the most beautiful woman— physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually—I have ever known. To me she is sexy, adorable, desirable, funny, sweet, needed, and wanted by me.I knew she has MS when I asked her to be my wife. That knowledge did not and does not stop me from loving her or desiring to make love to her, and protect her. To me MS is a part of her, and does not in any way distract from my image of her as a caring, vibrant loving, and very desirable woman. I am proud to relate to you all that Loveisjoy is my wife, and my joy! Hi baby, I love you! Vincent Martin -- posted by vemartin » loveisjoy - Wow! Thanks to everyone for all of the encouraging words!I greatly appreciate my husband's words because I know they are sincere and from his heart. When he tells me that I'm beautiful regardless of the MS, it reminds me that very often the image we see of ourselves is so different than how others perceive us. Now that I've gained some awareness of how needlessly and unfairly tough I can be on myself, I've become much more accepting of my body...MS and all. -- posted by loveisjoy » Dee28 - Re: Keep Smiling In response to message posted by loveisjoy:Loveisjoy, that can't be said any better than that. When you start to love yourself, regardless of the problems you may have you will find joy and of course, see the love around you. Keep smiling!!! Thanks for giving me and other MS'ers hope for the future. -- posted by Dee28 » Dee28 - Re: She Makes me Proud In response to message posted by vemartin:Please sir, let me commend you on your devotion, love and understand for your wife. That message to your wife touched me and my co-workers. You see sir, I was diagnosed on Oct. 7, 2002, but before this diagnose my body had other problems. But, through it all My Love of my Life (husband),has stood by me, loved me no matter what I went through or took him through. He asures me everyday that I'm still the beautiful lady he married 11yrs. ago. I just wanted to let you know that there are not a lot of men out there like you and my husband. And my prays go out to you and your family. Be Blessed. -- posted by Dee28 » Vicblenks - Body image - come get some!
