» Radiocowboy - Copyright

Hi Ewan
Copyright is a huge subject all on it's own. But is broken every hour. I know people will find it easy just to get the artists permission if they want to record or play a song live. You will find they will be compliant and pleased that someone has asked their permission. I heard a song on MP3 and knew it would suit a musician friend of mine to do live. So I simply emailed the owner of the song with my request. The artist gave me permission plus mailed a pack of their CDs to me.
I can understand if the artists wanted to bring their lawmen down on Knapster or MP3. The sales of their CDs is their bread and butter. Copyright protects them.
Another top article Ewan.

» mkwilbur - correct information

well, it's interesting how so many people like to spout information.

it's not all right.
but, it is legal.

According to Title 17 and the DMCA (the upgraded version of 17..haha)

it is illegal to record and store audio files to a device with the sole purpose to record and/or store music.

since the computer is NOT a device specifically designed for the sole purpose to record audio...

um... Go for it.
now, if someone tries to sell it, then, it is an infringement and the consequences are severe.

Please do research things before you spout.
I have found that credibility weighs heavily in writing.
