I can't believe a company would put money ahead of babies! That just seems criminal! I'm glad I found your article.Mary Stubley -- posted by MaryS_9

And to think that our doctor suggested using Carnation if we were "planning" on bottlefeeding, since it was "easier to digest" and "more like breastmilk". Hmm...... I am just glad that wonderful articles like these reinforce my decision to continue to breastfeed my daughter, now 9 months old. Thanks for the great work, Amy! It really is amazing, and disillusioning, to learn of the financial motivations behind formula marketing. Dia Michels has cowritten an excellent book on this subject-- "Milk, Money, and Madness: The Culture and Politics of Breastfeeding". I want to clarify that this article is not intended to attack the choices of women who bottle feed-- it's simply meant to point out the dubious marketing practics of certain formula companies. It's great to hear from other nursing mothers, though, so thanks for sharing your experiences-- although my first daughter had difficulties breastfeeding, my last two have been ardent nursers! Whatever our mothering choices, it's great to see so many parenting topics on Suite 101-- I encourage everyone to check out Infants and Work at Home Parents!
