» Jessica_Williams - Amy, After reading your wonderful article, I realized that I Amy,After reading your wonderful article, I realized that I have frequently turned to other mothers on the Internet for companionship during the hard times. I have found that anonymity helps everyone to relax and let the emotions come out honestly. I wonder if the housewives you describe really had such companionship? There is something to be said about reaching out to the entire world and striking up friendships with others who are in a similiar situation. If I lived in the era you describe, I might try harder to connect with those around me, but because the fact that you can't choose your neighbors still stands true today, I am grateful for my long-distance friendships with mothers I have never met in person. Still, it is sad that our culture revels in privacy and shutting out those around us. The sense of community is not felt the same way it was in the 1800's when people depended on each other for not only companionship, but for survival. Perhaps the Internet is a way for mothers to depend on each other in the same basic ways, but through a different medium. However the sociology works in to our new form of communication, you have given me quite a bit to think about. I look forward to reading your articles! Jessica -- posted by Jessica_Williams
