I'm so glad to hear that he is doing better. All it takes is a little tender loving care and they really blossom!
It's probably unlikely that a puppy that young would have heartworms but he should be on preventative as soon as possible because heartworm disease can kill, and treatment is very painful for the dog and much more expensive than the preventative.
I'm so glad you've taken him in and I look forward to seeing more pictures of him.

» MSM3727 - What kind of dog is this?
I have had my dog for over a year now. She showed up at my sister's house and would not leave, so I adopted her. She is 35 pounds, short hair that sheds A LOT!!! She hates the water: rain, pools, baths, anything water she hates. She has very small feet and delicate facial features, with very expressive eyes and face. Her ears are large and stand up. Her tail curves up slightly when at point. She almost never barks; only when someone knocks on the door or at other dogs in play. She is a very fast runner, loves to chase. She likes to nip at your heels or other dogs faces/necks and legs while at play. She will lay down and wait for a dog to get near her and then attack when at play. She is not so good at fetch. She has a very good temperatment with people, young and old. I have been told that she has basenji, red heeler, dingo, even pit bull in her. One distinguishing mark on her is that she has a dark stip of hair on her back that runs from the base of her neck to her tail. Also, both of her sholder blades have a blond patch while her overall color is red or ginger. Please let me know if anyone knows what she might be. Thank you!!!-- posted by MSM3727

In response to What kind of dog is this? posted by MSM3727:Do you have a picture you can post? We have a Red Heeler (Cattle Dog) mix, and she sounds very similar....ours is likely crossed with pit bull, but not certain. Pit bulls can get that strip of hair that runs down their back....ours has large pointed ears, and is a red color. One eye is brown, one blue. Yours sounds so much like Liberty....the not liking water, fast runner...etc. Heelers have dingo in them way back...and can actually have a lot of pit bull features, from what I've seen!

» bishopmom - What kind of dog did we adopt? Anybody?
We adopted an adult dog from our local Humane Society. He was picked up as a stray, but he had a collar with no tag, was neutered, and was well cared for. The Humane Society said he was the greatest dog in their facility. We didn't know what they meant, but they were dying for us to choose him. Now I know why! We quickly noticed that "Jed" was waiting on something. When we got him out of the car, he sat at the end of our sidewalk and stared. I patted my leg and he came to my foot and sat down and stared again! Well, we've since discovered that when we do different things with our hands, he does a trick! He's amazing. I'm trying to figure out how to post his photos. (Any help?) He is a dark brown color, but when an individual hair is examined, the tip is grey? He has a very symetrical pattern, white muzzle, tail tip and chest, brown spots on his white feet. His ears fold. His eyes are almond shaped and ooze a bit at times. He weighs about 60 lbs. He is extremely intelligent. I never saw such intelligence in a dog! Thank you for your help! :o)-- posted by bishopmom

Okay, this is gonna sound weird. When you pet him one direction, his hair looks light. When you pet him the opposite direction, it's dark. Lol. Like shag carpet? :o)-- posted by bishopmom
» bishopmom - One more thing I forgot...
He loves the water. We have a creek and he swims around in circles in it. He goes to the gate that leads to the creek and waits there to be allowed through, (although he has climbed the gate before). Then he races and leaps into the creek.-- posted by bishopmom
