» ghaziya - What about the add-on pages with extra pix?

Hurley, thanks for your reply! May I ask a follow-up question? Did you view just the main article itself, or did you also click on the links in it to look at the additional pictures of each dancer?

By the way, on August 18 I'll be posting Scenes From Turkey: Oriental Dance, Part 2. This one will have pictures of 5 different dancers. I just finished putting it all together today.

» Emine - Turkey

I enjoyed every article and every photograph. I am Turkish and I was too young when I was there to appreciate the dancers I saw in Turkey. I was aware of the "skimpy" outfits and high heals, also, that the current Turkish dancers are young, tall, leggy, and thin. Your pictures show that the style has returned to the voluptuous women who used to be popular. I love the new "evening gown" type of outfits. I can't thank you enough for posting this article, and yes, I returned several times to look at each photo again.

» Ninevah - Turkish Trip

I thought the article was great. It's nice to see what the dancers are wearing, rather than trying to imagine, especially with the tales of the skimpy costumes. The commentary was interesting, the pics were well taken and showed the dancers poses nicely. Until I get "over there" I have to live vicariously! Post 'em all!

» ulani - Trip to Turkey article

I loved this article. I especially liked the fact that it was accompanied by one picture of each dancer, with links to view more. I was able to read the article (with a photo to let me know who I was reading about), and then when I was finished, I could go back through all the links and take my time browsing through the rest of the photos. I thought this was an excellent way to present the article. Also, I liked that the article loaded so quickly! Anyone with a computer as old and slow as mine will appreciate this! I, too, loved the evening gown style of costume. I can't get enough of seeing different costumes - especially those of dancers in other parts of the world. Thank you for all the work and time you put into presenting this for us to enjoy!

» Hurley - How much did I look at?

I too checked out the extra pictures of the dancers. I liked being able to get a better look at them and their costumes. This format worked well, in my opinion.

» kahire - wonderful pictures

the article series about Turkey is really interesting and pictures are wonderful. I myself travle Turkey annually (and watch Turkish TV) so I am quite well aware of what is going on Turkish dance scene but more stories and pictures are always wonderful to read.

One thing there is anyway that I don't agree: famous Turkish costumer Bella Boutique has made evening gown-style dancedresses long before they came fashionable even in Egypt so I would rather "blame" western dancers and Turkish popsingers who also like to wear these fabulous costumes... but I think it is sad that most of Turkish dancers dance these days to Egyptian pop songs and don't use much fantastic Turkish music anymore. In TV there has appeared more and more dancers who use also Turkish music so maybe we just have to wait for a while before they can be seen at touristic shows.

» ghaziya - I stand corrected! And comments on Bella...

Kahire, thanks for the info about Bella's use of the evening gown fashions. I've heard of Bella, but I have to admit I'm not familiar with the style of costumes coming from her (him?)

When I was in Istanbul in July, I wanted to go to Bella's, but never found a way to fit it into my schedule. (I was on a package tour, and I didn't want to miss any of the great sights that were arranged for us to see!) Fortunately, I did get to visit two other costume makers--one in the Taksim district, and one on the fringes of the Great Bazaar, downstairs. (And I'm happy to report that I came home with 4 wonderful new costumes.)

I've heard that although Bella's costumes are stunningly beautiful, they're very, very expensive because the name is so well known and everyone seeks them out.

It's encouraging to hear that Turkish television is increasingly featuring dancers who use Turkish music for their performances. I hope the trend expands to encompass the shows that are available for tourists to see!

» kahire - Bella Boutique

I think one of the best things with Bella Boutique is that they can provide a wide range of styles and also prices with their costumes. Naturally there are those unique creations that are really expensive but they make also "standard model" costumes, which are also very beautiful, well-made and prices are really reasonable. For example one really stunning evening-gown costs only ca. 250USD and it's one of the most beautiful costumes I've ever seen. You cans ee part of the costume at page: http://www.saunalahti.fi/afsana1/toimitu...

» ghaziya - Coming: A New "Scenes From Turkey" Article

On Friday, September 15, the fourth installment in my Scenes From Turkey article will appear. This has photos of dancers performing "gobek tansi", which is Turkish for "belly dance". As you'll find when you read the article and look at the pictures, the dance that the Turkish people call "belly" dance doesn't look a thing like the dance that Americans call by the same name!

Seeing gobek tansi performed was a real highlight of my Turkish trip. It was very playful, and I was delighted with the mischievous nature of it. I hope you'll enjoy the pictures of it!

» amulya - Re: Bella Boutique

I am not so happy with the bella boutique, they have cheated many people, including me. Their costumes are beautiful, but I will never buy there anymore.
