» Lawhawk - Diplomacy Without Appeasement

You can have diplomacy without appeasement. Talks can take place and brinksmanship can occur. War does not have to be an absolute outcome of the talks. Standing firm to convictions will mean the North Koreans will back down because they will have no other choice if the right kind and amount of pressure is put on them from China and Russia, along with US, Japanese and South Korean diplomats.

» Lawhawk - Axis of Appeasement

First there was the Axis Powers of World War II. Then came the Axis of Evil - Iraq and North Korea both merit consideration there. Now, we have an axis of appeasement, according to Daniel Pipes.

World War II's lesson (strike before an aggressive tyrant builds his power) has lost out to the '20s attitude ("nothing justifies envisaging military action").

This self-hating weakness will lead again to disaster, no less than it did leading up to World War II. The United States finds itself having to lead the democracies away from the lure of appeasement. Iraq is a good place to start.
