Staph. Infections a Common Yet Serious Problem: Checking back after a long timeRead the article this discussion is about

» Skylark34 - Checking back after a long time Hello all - I posted twice back in 2003. Messages #14 and #25. My concern was, and still is, about my adult daughter, who lives alone, and has recurring infections of MRSA. She has Kaiser HMO, and the only meds they prescribe are either Keflex or Vanco. She is reluctant to try the Vanco Picc line, because they make you do it yourself at home, or you have to go to the hospital everyday for weeks. She cannot afford to miss work, so has stayed with the Keflex. It still works to clear things up, but it always comes back eventually - usually when she is especially stressed or gets really run down. The interesting thing about her case, is that her boyfriend has NOT shown any signs of MRSA, and they spend every weekend together. I wonder if he is especially strong and lucky, or if it actually is in his system, but just hasn't shown up yet? After I posted my last message in here, I received an email from a young mother in Texas, who was having a terrible time with MRSA. Her entire family was infected, including her baby, who was a newborn at the time. She posted a number of times under the name, anav. I was wondering if any of you have heard from her, and know how she and her family are doing? I've lost her email, and I see that it isn't listed after her name. jbfloren - please post another message, telling us if it helped you to swim in the ocean?? I don't see how the salt water on the surface of the skin could help, when the infection is always inside the body? However, it would sure be worth a try. I will tell my daughter about it. I wish that others who wrote in here early on, would let us know how they are, and if anything new has worked for them? -- posted by Skylark34
