My wife and I both have/ had MRSA. It is a killer and hard to get rid of. However, here are some pointed tips. First, you need to be seeing an infectious disease doctor as they are the only ones specialized in this. Second- ask to be put on this regimen: (All of it at the same time)1.Bactrimm DS two times daily for first twenty days and then once daily for 6 months after that. 2Mupirocinin 2 times daily in your nasal passages anperineumum. Thperineumum is the skin between your genitals and anus. These two areas are where MRSA colonizes. Do this for five to twenty days two timedailyly. Phisohexhex surgical wash (prescription only) 3 times weekly for at least six months. 4. LYSOL disinfectant spray kills MRSA in 30 seconds on hard surfaces. Spray on toilet seat every time you use the bathroom wether you stand or sit (men). Get the hand sanitizer lotion and use it every time you are about to deal with food or peopLysolysol wipes are now availabLysolysol your computer keyboard. Encourage family members to use the sanitizer before and after they enter your house. Kill the bug and win!!!! The only way you can beat this is if you kill it where it is originating from which for most is in the nasal passages and the skin between the anus (butt hole as others put it). If you don't eradicate the source, of course it comes back. About the first point, have the doctor do a culture one more time and have them see which antibiotics work against YOUR particular version of MRSA and have them prescribe that medication. On the market now are silver padded bandages made by Curaid. Silver is known for killing MRSA by turning it into a gram negative environment where MRSA is gram positive. You can find them at any drug store near the Band Aids. Or you can go to GNC or Vitamin World and pick up a bottle of Colloidal Silver and drop three - five drops on your dressings. Web sites may tell you to ingest it by dropping 5 drops under your tongue, but if you injest too much, you can permanently taint your skin to a greyish color. So you should try the silver bandages or colloidal silver on dressings on a localized area before injestion.Silver has been known to kill bacteria for a long time and now a lot of your surgical tables are being made out of silver. MRSA can live on most metals for up to 8 hours without dying. Silver will kill MRSA in a dish within 30 minutes according to some studies. Again, I am not a scientist or a doctor, just a fed up person with this super bug and finally free of it!!!!!!!!!! I was diagnosed with MRSA this past October and seems and I am currently dealing with it again. I am so put off by my primary doc who treated me over and over again (over a course of a year of being constantly sick and having boils) with antibiotics that never even touched the MRSA. He finally referred me to a pulmonologist who did a sputum sample and found the MRSA. I did a round of the Zyvox, (after nearly falling over at the price!) and had been healthy up until a week ago. I cannot imagine having to do the Zyvox every other month! Not to mention feeling the way I do when I know the infection is running rampant. After reading your advice, I am going to search for an Infectious Disease doctor in the Atlanta area (I am about 2 hours NE of ATL & the local docs just don't seem to have a clue!) and hopefully I can find a doctor with more knowledge about MRSA. I was told because I am a "healthy, 33 year old female" that there was just no reason to test for MRSA again this past visit. How frustrating!! I was in last week again to see my primary care doc with a raging fever, ear and sinus infection, and once again, he said no need to check for MRSA -- even after showing him the most recent boil that had formed on my hip in conjunction with URI symptoms. His response was, "That is a carbuncle. I can't help you with that. You need a dermatologist." Now, I do not have MD behind my name, and never claimed to just as you had stated, but damn, I do know that my MRSA symptoms and the boil appeared at the same time. I have been on Cefzil, given for an ear infection, for 5 days now and my symptoms have not improved at all. I am so tired of feeling the way I do physically, and having doctors brush me off!! I feel as though my life and health are being controlled by MRSA. What a relief to find this message board -- I thank everybody for posting their stories and experiences. So I went to Vitamin World and they have tea tree oil soap. I use it daily letting it sit on my skin for at least two minutes. It lathers quite well. A popular brand to try if you are buying it on the internet is "Jason's". I have been declared free from the bug for over two months now!!! It is extremely hard to get rid of. I still use Tea Tree Oil Soap from GNC or Vitamin World every other day. Good hygiene is a must. I mean not just showering, but hand sanitizer once an hour and no contact with family and friends without sanitizing first (each of you). I am sorry you got this terrible bug.
