"He said his patients with methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, better known as MRSA, ranged in age from 3 to 40 years old. While the cause is difficult to pinpoint, Parks said each patient had swum in the ocean right before contracting the illness." Not sure of follow-up/veracity/sensationalism of article, but I thought I should share it with you. Regards. -- posted by jzed » highschoolgirl - abscess Hello everyone. I was just wondering if anyone could help me with what to do for getting rid of abscesses caused by MSRA. I have had numerous amounts of them and they seem to get bigger and more painful every time I get one. If anyone has any information on them please post it on the site or e-mail me at: mello2690@yahoo.com. Thank you.-- posted by highschoolgirl » SunnyDeb1 - Staph infection after hernia surgery My husband had hernia surgery in July 2004, 7 days after the surgery he developed a staph infection, the wound burst open and at least 3 cups of pus and fluid drained from incision. He has been on Augmentin, Keflex, and Cipro and nothing has cured this infection. The doctor just told him Oct 04..that he will need to have surgery again to remove the mesh that was used in hernia surgery because he is sure it is colonized with the staph. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advise would be appreciated!! Just FYI...in October of 03 my husband had bowel resection due to colon cancer, 6 months of Chemo, then this incisional hernia repair, and now a staph infection that is not going away!! PLEASE HELP with any advise!! Thank you and God Bless all of you!-- posted by SunnyDeb1 » Lilbit484 - Re: Staph infection after hernia surgery In response to Staph infection after hernia surgery posted by SunnyDeb1:Dear SunnyDeb1: I can somewhat relate to your husband's situation. I had a right lumbalaminectomymyherniateded L5/S1 disc)iAugug '04. 3 weeks later I was back in surgery due to a staph infection which hit my vertebrae. They cultured it and found it to be treatable with IV antibiotics through a PICC line. The drug I administered every 8 hours for 4 weeks waCefazolinin. My surgeon consulted with an infectious disease specialist who actually prescribed the treatment. Does your husband have an allergy to penicillin based upon the drugs you've mentioned? I too had the enormous amount of discharge and still havinflammationon at the incision site with a little bit of drainage. I hated the PICC line so much, that I got removed 2 weeks too early. (I'm a horrible patient). I still can't go back to work until the drainage stops. I'm expecting to be put on oral antibiotics of some sort within the next couple of days. I'm hoping it'll go away sometime soon... In my opinion (I'm not a doctor, just an EMT) it sounds as though the plan to remove the mesh is a step in the right direction although I'm sure your husband has already gone through more than enough already. Maybe an infectious disease specialist would be willing to look at his case and provide some other opinion for future treatment? I'll say a prayer tonight for him and wish you all the best in recovery processes. -- posted by Lilbit484 » brenm62 - Re: abscess In response to abscess posted by highschoolgirl:Hi,This is my first time on any kind chat or message board. But what has been going on in my life is to important.
