Hi, I just wanted to let you know that my family was affected by MRSA last year. My husband was attacked by apitbulll trying to protect a little boy from getting attacked. He is a deputy and this happened in our yard. He came down withspaphhepii first and than came down with MRSA 3 times during 6 reconstructive surgeries. We had a wonderful infectious disease doctor and I also have a sister that is a PA and is a director of a hospital. I bleached my house everyday. My 16 year old son caught it and so did I. We both went on IVZyvoxx which worked tremendously, they do make this in pill form also. After doing some research with the doctor and my sisters help, I found that bleach does NOT kill MRSA, onlylysoll spray or concentratelysoll andhiblicinss soap. antibacterial soap did not work. I had to clean my house withlysoll every day, keep all open wounds covered, spray my bathroom sink and toilet after everyone infected used it, I usedlysoll wipes to wipe down the handles on sinks and washed my carpets and sheets inhiblicinss soap. It was extremely hard to get rid of. I just had back surgery and took the same precautions and did not get it. I also did a lot of praying, my husband will probably never be a cop again because he had the infection so many times in his hand that he can't use his trigger finger or thumb, but it has been 9 months with no MRSA. YesMrsaa does stay dormant. It is extremely important that if people come to your house sick you uselysoll because if your immune system gets lowered you are more susceptible to catch it. WEtok a lot of natural vitamins to boost our immune system also. I hope all goes with you because our world was turned upside down for months. Best of luck

My heart goes out to everyone that has been affected by this. My 8 year old son had a sore on the top of his right foot in February of this year. We found out that it was MRSA. It seemed like it took forever to get it to clear up, especially with all the pain he had to go through. We were told at the time that it can lay dormant. Sure enough, a month ago he had another outbreak worse than the first. He had a sore show up on his inner thigh on his right leg. Then he had another one show up on his left buttock and then one under his chin. All of these were within days of each other. He was in so much pain. It hurt watching this.

His sores cleared up, but my 10 year old son and I have it. On Tuesday evening, he told me that his finger hurt. He had a small infection on the side of his middle finger on his left hand. It looked like an infected hang nail. By the next morning, it was three times as bad as the night before. We took him to the doctor and found out that it was a staph infection. They had to remove his finger nail and skin around the infection.

To make matters worse, I found out on Monday that over the weekend I had been bitten on my lower back by a spider from the brown recluse family. My doctor prescribed doxycycline. By Wednesday it was worse. I went back to the doctor. His staff finally got the lab to give us a preliminary report of the culture taken on Monday. Staph has set in and the antibiotic was not working. So, I have received rocephin 1000mg shots for the past two days. I am also taking levofloxacin orally. Today we should have the sensitivity report back to see what antibiotics will work. I usually have a tolerance to pain, but wow. This has been one of the most painful experiences in my life.

This is taking its toll on the family, both mentally and financially. Praying is the only thing that is keeping me sane through this. Again, my heart and prayers go out to all the families dealing with this problem.

» permaglo11 - Sinus Staph infection

My boy-friend suffered from sinus problems majority of his life, 6 years ago had 2 surgeries with no relief really. Last fall after couple of infections, he was diagnosed with Staph infection, been put on Doxycycline, Augmentin and smth else. It supposingly cleared up. Now, he's been feeling not so well, went to the ENT and it is staph again, this time she put him on 21 days of Doxycycline. I wonder if it is going to help? Why it keeps reoccurring? Is there anything out there that can help?

Hey smokey41. Got some questions for you. Do you have the same sinus staph problem? I've heard about Mayo Clinic and actually my boy-friend wanted to go there too. You think it was a waste of time? Is there anything that can help? What about any natural supplements?

» rob667 - Sinus MRSA

I also have a MRSA Sinus infection, 4 sinus surgery and 3 P.I.C.C. lines. I have tried all the standard antibiotics. No luck even 3 courses of IV antibiotics no luck. There is a cure "ZYVOX"
the generic is Linezolid. You will never get an rx for it. Unless you have serious connections. Those of us who can live with the infection, wont get medication. Only old dying people with blood infections get this med. No offense aimed at seniors but i am offended that we have to be dying to get treated. Meanwhile i am spreading the disease when i go to the Doctor, shake hands or people touch anything that i touch. I have infected no less than 3 people all in my family. There is no way to manage this bug, it manages you, it tells you how to live and i am sure it will tell me when to die. I am trying to get attention to the cause and get this new synthetic antibiotic available for more of us.

» Skylark34 - Checking back after a long time

Hello all - I posted twice back in 2003. Messages #14 and #25. My concern was, and still is, about my adult daughter, who lives alone, and has recurring infections of MRSA. She has Kaiser HMO, and the only meds they prescribe are either Keflex or Vanco. She is reluctant to try the Vanco Picc line, because they make you do it yourself at home, or you have to go to the hospital everyday for weeks. She cannot afford to miss work, so has stayed with the Keflex. It still works to clear things up, but it always comes back eventually - usually when she is especially stressed or gets really run down. The interesting thing about her case, is that her boyfriend has NOT shown any signs of MRSA, and they spend every weekend together. I wonder if he is especially strong and lucky, or if it actually is in his system, but just hasn't shown up yet?

After I posted my last message in here, I received an email from a young mother in Texas, who was having a terrible time with MRSA. Her entire family was infected, including her baby, who was a newborn at the time. She posted a number of times under the name, anav. I was wondering if any of you have heard from her, and know how she and her family are doing? I've lost her email, and I see that it isn't listed after her name.

jbfloren - please post another message, telling us if it helped you to swim in the ocean?? I don't see how the salt water on the surface of the skin could help, when the infection is always inside the body? However, it would sure be worth a try. I will tell my daughter about it.

I wish that others who wrote in here early on, would let us know how they are, and if anything new has worked for them?

Hi,
Did you have your 5th surgery? I also have had three surgeries and am waiting for a fourth. Mine also started back in Nov.2001 with my first surgery. Life has not been the same since. They've tried pretty much everything on me and still being cultured with MRSA. Write me: JAKNMAK1@aol.com

In response to message posted by mak105:

Evidently, there must be several kinds of this MSRA. My brother in-law (Age 46) had to go into the hospital for Pneumonia and was diagnosed as having:
Anurism, Emphasima, Ling Cancer and Pneumonia.
They gave anitbitics for Pnemonia. After 2 days in Hospital, had to go on Life Support. He died 2 weeks later.

His wife had an autopsy done to determine Cancer type for family history purposes.

Autoposy results showed:
No Anurism
No Emphasima
No Cancer other than a small spot which was sent off to see if it were malignant.
But, autopsy showed cause of death to be MSRA.

There was a ptient in the hospital 2 rooms down being treated for MSRA. Apparently, it travels quite easily in a hospital environment.
