If the virus is allowed to remain in your daughter's system it will eventually become unaffected by the Keflex, allowing it to take over. Therefore it is very important that the Vancomycin be introduced right away. I hope this letter finds you well.
Intravenous absorption oVancomycin, Vancomycin is the quickest route. -- posted by laurelmed » tamituit - Re: MRSA Skylark34,I had surgery August of 2002, about 3 weeks after my surgery my incision areas began to fall apart. After many tests, the hospital discovered I had MRSA staph. I was sent home with a Pick-line in my left arm and put on Vancomycin. I began to have spiked fevers and chills, itched all over my body and severe headaches. I was hospitalized for 5 days and they finally figured out that I was allergic to the Vancomycin. They put me on a different IV drip and it worked very well. I had to give myself an IV drip every 8 hours at home. I did just fine. My only drawback was the side effects of the allergy to Vancomycin. It took me about 3 months to get back to normal health and heal my wounds. Best of luck to your daughter. She could inquire about home health care to come and administer her IV drips. I had a nurse come daily to change my bandages and check my vitals. It was very reassuring knowing they were there if I needed them. -- posted by tamituit » ghudson777 - How do I clean my house to protect from staph? My 28 year old daughter has just spent a week with me after developing a staph infection. We didn't know what is was until finally she allowed me to take her to the doctor. I have washed everything she touched, and I am washing my hands constantly. I still feel uneasy about this. I live with my sister and she returns tomorrow. I don't want to endanger her. My daughter will return from the hospital tomorrow. I'm hoping for any clean-up advice you can give me. In response to message posted by ghudson777:Go to my site www.vestavapore.net I have a real interest in chemical free cleaning. This might help and for more than one problem. If you would like to call be my guest, leave email or call and I will get back to you. I need partners as well. Im working with congressman for better ways to clean and most importantly sanitize. I own this equipment, then decided to market it to hospitals. etc sue mcg -- posted by vesta » Skylark34 - MRSA - message to laurelmed and ghudson777 laurelmed: Thank you very much for responding to my request for information on MRSA. I am so worried, and only wish that my 34 year old daughter would become concerned enough to do something about it. Instead, she keeps getting outbreaks (boils) and continues to get scripts for Keflex. Obviously it is not killing the bacteria, but only holding it in check. I'm sorry to say, that my daughter is not in the best of mental health, and has other serious problems besides the MRSA. She is angry at me for continuing to "harp" on her about getting the Vancomycin treatment, so now will not discuss the problem with me anymore at all. I havn't seen her since early May, and I'm afraid that she has lost a lot more weight and is not doing well physically and emotionally.
ghudson777: My daughter was here at my house for a couple of weeks in April, and she had an outbreak of the MRSA boils, while she was here. I was concerned about the possibility of either my husband or myself catching it from her, but so far we have had no signs of it. After she left, I washed all the bedding in a Clorox solution, and also the towels that she used. Of course I sterilized the bathtub, and the toilet. Weeks later, I wondered about the fact that she washed her clothes and underware in the washing machine, every day while she was here, and I continued to use it for my regular laundry? Also, she used our shower, and probably used our toilet, since I never told her not to. Not to mention sitting around the house on chairs and couch, and hands touching all surfaces in the house. How can a person possibly sterilize everything, unless you have a fumigation service come in! LOL! Also, I was in her apartment with her in early May. I didn't stay there overnight, but I did spend lots of time there, and handled lots of her things, used her bathroom, kitchen, etc. Of course I was aware, and washed my hands constantly, but still...! We do the best we can, but we can only do so much. -- posted by Skylark34 » sugarbpm - Staph in Lungs; Living in Mold Filled Apartment I've just discovered through a bronscopy that I have the staph bacteria in my lungs/and/or bronchial tubes...I have no idea how it got there, and was so upset when I talked to my doctor I couldn't think of all the things I wanted to ask about this.. I discovered about 2 months ago, my rented apartment has several different kinds of toxic mold growing on the ceilings, inside the walls (so bad you can SEE it), and is circulating through the walls coming out the electrical sockets... Does anyone know whether this could be linked to this mold? (the first sign of the mold was that it was blowing out of my air conditioner/heating vents) Please help if you have any information on this.. Sugar in Tennessee -- posted by sugarbpm » ptown_cruizer - never ending staph I thought I was the only one having this problem. After I became pregnant with my son I began having small pimples that would turn into boils on my arms. I went to a dermatoligist and was told it was an infection of the hair folicle, and was put on cephalexin. Some time past and I began getting them again but on the inside of my thighs and brow line and under arms, went to a doctor was put on cephalexin again. Two weeks after my son was born I ended up with a major infection over my right eye, which made my entire right side of my face swell up, and I went to a clinic since I was away from home they gave some type of antibiotic shot in the hip and gave me keflex and refered me to a plastic surgeon who was to lance it open to drain it. He was the only doctor smart enought to send for a culture of this Staph. Ended up being a resistant type of Staph and was told to d/c the keflex immediately and start a 10-day dose of Levaquin. He told me had I not came to him when I did that I could have died from it which scared me to death. And that was almost a year and a half ago that it all started and I'm still getting these infections. I've been put on Levaquin four times after the major infection. I think the infection has made itself comformtable and doesn't want to go anywhere. I think the only option for me is to be put on the IV drip. Any advice on this. I'd like to see a specialist but I'ev been told they probably wouldn't see me unless I had a current outbreak of Staph for them to see but by the time I would get to the appointment it would be completely cleared up. What should I do?-- posted by ptown_cruizer » SANDI41 - Re: never ending staph In response to message posted by ptown_cruizer:hello i also suffered from staph in a ankle i had surgery on ..my infectious disease doctor did put me on intravenous antibiotic's with vancomycin for 6 weeks ,then 4 weeks on oral afterwards ..as of now 5 months later i have been cleared of staph an ankle finally healed ...i had a sugery that failed because of staph surrounding the bone ..but so for so good ..so maybe you need to go to a infectious disease doctor if your doctor is not one because they do specialize in this area .
