» kck64 - Chronic Staph Aureus Infections after surgery

I have had recurrent skin ulcers (abscesses) since I was hospitalized for five months with an indwelling GROSHAN catheter and an indwelling bladder catheter. These lesions now cover many areas of my body (they seem always to be around hair follicles and now on my nipples). I have been on many antibiotics but nothing clears them up and they often recur in the same closed up healed sore. They leave horrible scars. I am looking for a doctor who specializes in this as I live in Alaska and have not had any luck finding anyone here. This all started shortly after hospitalization and I remember specifically that I was not given any antibiotics after the surgery, the doctor was out of town and I was released early. I would appreciate any direction towards a doctor who specializes in this problem and at this point, I don't care which state they are in. I will travel anywhere. Thanks so much!

You might want to contact someone at the Mayo Clinic http://www.mayoclinic.org/ They would have a dermatologist that is experienced in severe cases such has yours.

» Economist100 - Chronic staph infection

I've had a staph infection in my lungs/sinuses for over 2 years; have been trated with variety of quinolone anti-biotics (levaquin, cipro, avelox) with so far little or no success; am allergic to sulfas/cephalosporins and penicillin. I regularly sinus wash. I am about to be given IV vancomycin for the second time, but am worried it won't work either. Have been to major lung/sinus hospitals (Mayos, National Jewish)and no one seems to be able to help. Is there any hope/advice for me? I'm 52, worried I won't see many future years.

There is always hope. However, I can't tell you exactly what will happen to you. I would encourage you to ask your physicians these questions. You are paying them for this sort of information and they should give it to you. People who ask questions get better care.
