Hi surfgurl,
YOu sound exactly like me. For the past oh about 6 years or so I would use a deoderant and it would only seem to work for a few weeks, then I'd have to switch. Now I'm where nothing works at all and I'm just stinky about 3 hours after the shower. I am going to see a nutrionist and a dermatologist and I'll let you know of anything to try.

» Narcissus72 - Underarm odor

Everyone,
I'm the one who smelled awful 3 hours after a shower and no deoderants worked at all. Yesterday morning I got fed up with my deoderants not working-so I got out of the shower and rubbed baking soda on my underarms and Praise the Lord! I didn't smell ALL DAY! Plain old baking soda in the yellow box. I don't know if this will work for anyone else but definetly try it!! Good luck!

I have the same problem as many of you do. I read somewhere that hydrogen peroxide worked to kill the bacteria. I have found it to work quite well. The article actually said to put a small amount in water, but I just put some on a cotton ball and put it on my underarms before I put on deoderant. I then keep some saturated cotton balls with me so I can use them as a refresher when I need it throughout the day. I have also found switching deoderants often helps.

I have an article posted that might help some of the people here who are having problems with excessive body odor.
http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/1789... It will appear on my Canadian Health topic in November, but you can access it now.

im 18 and just this past year my underarm odor has gone from almost nonexistent to horrid... i have had an excessive sweating problem since middle school when i hit puberty, which i still do... but it didn't carry any odor until now. i thought it might be because of the sudden stress i was put under since my diet hasn't changed. but i wanted to know what i could do to get rid of it, i shower every morning and a few hours later the smell comes back... deodorant of any kind hasn't worked either, at least not for more than an hour. i was looking at a product called maxim that makes you stop sweating... do you recommend this? and if i stop sweating... will the smell go away?

Kandi,

I don't recommend you use anything that will make you stop sweating. We sweat to purge toxins from the body. I have written an article about excessive sweating. Please see post above yours. The article might help.

I can't believe I found this discussion board. I have been suffering from the same odor problem for a couple of years. I've been to 3 doctors who thought I was nuts. I guess the problem wasn't apparent at the time. The last doctor did run complete blood work (to appease me I believe) and all came back normal. I was beginning to think I really am nuts! It is so good to hear others have this same problem. I am a 47 year old female, in good health, not overweight, shower 2-3 times daily, use a variety of soaps, antiperspirants, powders, etc. Have tried swabbing with alcohol, but see no difference. I do not have a problem with perspiration, just odor. I'll try hydrogen peroxide. Also heard deordorants are more effective for odor than antiperspirants and sprays work better than solids. Have heard zinc deficiency could cause this. Has anyone else heard this? Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

Hello Baffled,

You are not alone. I have been having this problem for a while now. I have used all kinds of soaps, deodorants, I shower 2-3 times a day and the odor returns after about 3-4 hours. I have no social life. I am having problems dealing with this at work because of the close office environment. How do you handle this problem at work?
