» MJ808 - Irrirated underarm

I shave my underarm as often as every other day. Maybe this is a bit much but my underarm hair grows fast. I can't stand seeing even a little hair sprouting out of my underarm. In the process however, I noticed my underarm is becoming irrirated...my skin looks to me like razor bumps and sometimes pimply. Is there a way I can treat it? Are there alternatives to removing my underarm hair without shaving?

In response to message posted by MJ808:

You should stop shaving so often. You can use hot wax treatments however they can be quite discomforting.

Has anyone ever considered that excess vitamins might be the cause of excessive underarm odor. It seems like sometimes when I take multi-vitamins regularly I start to have this problem. It has a very "distinctive" and strong smell. It seems like a glandular secretion. It happens occassionally and I can feel it suddenly become sticky. It doesn't seem like a regular water-like sweat. It seems kind of thick and condensed. I've also heard that unusual or strong odor can be the sign of something serious. Any thoughts?

» Narcissus72 - underarm odor

Hi,
I am a 26 year old female. I have noticed that for about a couple of years now, I have had the nastiest underarm odor you can imajine. I shower everyday and scrub my armpits with antibacterial soap and a scrubbie thing.A couple hours after I've done this, I stink like I never did it. When I wake up in the morning, it's so bad it's embarrassing to even myself. I have tried everything under the sun. I recently have been using Mitchum, which is supposed to be "so effective you could skip a day". Not working! I have to wash my t-shirts 3 to 4 times before I can wear them again, they stink so bad from one wearing. My doctor has no suggestions, I need help NOW! Please, anyone with suggestions, help!

The increase in odor might be due to a change in diet. Did you change your diet just before the odor began?

Hi Dr. Chamberlain,
Thanks for responding! You know, I guess it started around the time when I gave birth to my son now that I think about it. That was just 3 years ago. I have a 8 month old daughter as well, and it just seems worse than ever. My diet has actually changed for the better since I've had my daughter and while I was pregnant with her. Could it be something of hormonal change? I also saw that one lady posted that it may be vitamins. If that's the case, then maybe prenatals are the culprit because i am still taking them. Please let me know your thoughts and thanks again for answering so soon!

I don't have a solution for you. However, it might be good for you to visit a dermatologist. They might be of the most help in providing advice concerning your problem. One source I consulted with also mentioned that certain foods like onions, garlic, curry, spicy foods, etc. can cause odor problems. Sorry I could not be any more help.
