Bacteria in Armpits?

Neal will know all about this.A friend of mine uses an 'armpit crystal' which is purported to be antibacterial. Whether it works or not is subject to interpretation! -- posted by Jojo » NealC - armpit bacteria The moist areas of the skin like the armpits can have a large number of organisms. It has been reported that if a moist dressing is placed in the armpit the number of bacteria rises in 4 days from 1000/cm squared to 10 million/cm squared. The most common bacteria on the skin are Proprionibacterium acnes, Staphylcoccus epidermidis, Corynebacterium, Micrococcus, Peptostreptococcus, and various Neisseria species. To a lesser extent Staphylococcus aureus is also found on the skin.One thing I do want to mention. Bacteria are also helpful to us. This obsession with eliminating all bacteria on our bodies can be harmful. The bacteria that normally dwell on our skin help us by preventing potentially disease-causing organisms from dwelling on our skin. Washing our skin to prevent the transmission of organisms is important. However, the total elimination of the organisms on us can at times also be harmful.
