» retroqueen - Making and Keeping Friends with a Mental Illness

When I read your article I became somewhat emotional. I could truly relate to what you said about your difficulties of keeping friends with your bipolar disorder. I almost feel lucky compared to people with this illness since all I have to deal with is depression, but that is bad enough. Especially, when you cannot get anyone to understand what you are going through. I have had fits and said things that I cannot take back many times before. They are all on my conscience, but at least I do have some true friends who have not abandoned me. I have been with my boyfriend through thick and thin. I find it hard to keep new friendships going because I won't call or otherwise interact with them very much at all since I am afraid of what I might say or do.

I have written a lot here, but I am very passionate about this subject. I would suggest that you write an article about how to talk to family and friends about one's disorder. I would read it, I know.

» Amy_Amy - Thank you

I always love hearing from readers and your suggestion on writing an article about how to talk to your friends and family about your disorder is wonderful. I will set to work on it right now in fact.
