» DennisAllen - No where to go There is no easy solution for the problem. Facilities have a maximum number of people they can effectively serve. Is it an answer to build bigger and larger facilities? Does this really address the root of the problem? Is there any individual that we can place the blame on for the systems inadequacies?-- posted by DennisAllen » loveandhugs - NO WHERE TO GO I also have found that my sister has fallen through the cracks of the system. This all came about when my brother died of prostrate cancer and had GIVEN my sister, who was in his care, to his son and daughter in law. They went to a judge and had her declared a child and he gave them a legal document saying they were her legal guardians. All of her siblings were uninformed about what had happened and only found out accidentally when one of them invited her over for Thanksgiving Dinner. She told her she didn't want to live with her nephew and niece and wanted to stay with her. We all thought she was only temporarily staying with them and was shocked to find out what had taken place. Unfortunately, we had to go through an attorney to try and release her from this underhanded event. Our mother had put in her will that she wanted her to be with all of her siblings and always have access to them. The judge said it didn't matter what we had to say about it any more than anyone on the street. This was shocking to all of us. She also had no more rights since she was clarified as a child, therefore she could not testify in her behalf. She is a loving, caring and thoughtful sister but has had a slight mental retardation disability and suffers from scoliosis. She definitely knows what's going on and who she is.Our rights meant nothing as the judge declared the document legal and she is still in their care. She is 66 years old and has been forced to clean I have no idea what to do next. How do I go about finding out where she is? I was told it was an institution in St. Louis, Illinois. Or maybe E. St. Louis, Illinois. She is so far away from us and I know she thinks we have abandoned her. She was always a part of our lives before our mother died and she went to live temporarily with our brother. I have no idea where to go. Please help..... -- posted by loveandhugs
