» Dan_Ellsworth - Seize the Day!

Happy Reformation Day, John! And Happy Birthday to your wife! Thanks for giving us something more substantial to focus on than the usual spookery. Now if we can recover All Saints' Day in its original meaning, we could have a two-day Festival of Faith that might well yield its own harvest.

Oddly, I have this mental image of a Halloween costume based on Martin Luther - with hammer, nails, and theses in hand to complete the reference. Something isn't quite right with this picture; might I have too much caffeine in my system?

I had never thought of the hammer-and-nails parallel. I think it's going to stick with me.

In response to message posted by Dan_Ellsworth:

I have often thought of wearing my Geneva gown and carrying hammer, nails, and a parchment copy (in Latin) of the 95 Theses to a Hallowe'en Party. Funny, when I attended Lutheran grade school, we would watch the classic Black and White film "Martin Luther" in the morning in the basement, then have a "Hallowe'en Carnival" in the gymnasium in the afternoon.

Dan (and others), you may want to consider what we have done at Salem. We have a showing of a Luther film (there are several available) in close proximity to Reformation/Hallowe'en. I have the program I developed on this forum (look for "Reformation Party"). It may also give your church a chance not only to feature the Reformation, but a history of your church/congregation as well as you invite the neighbors. The cost is minimal--it is amazing how little store brand soda and popcorn costs!

It's about time I read this article of yours, John, especially since I published one on the same subject two years before you.
