» Dan_Ellsworth - Uh-oh, could be biased ;-)

Having had the immersion baptism, and lived, I notice that all 10 "signs" (or is it "signs and wonders") seem to apply only to immersion baptisms. Does that mean there are no bad "sprinkling" or "pouring" baptisms? Maybe my current church (United Methodist) could live with that, but it looks to me like more research is needed to arrive at a complete list.

OK, having done my doctrinal duty, I can go ahead and say it: John, you found a fun one! I especially liked #2, Paul Hogan wrestling a preacher into submission. Vivid picture, if somewhat blurred with speed.

» H2O - Reformed vs. Lutheran

Dan:

As you so adroitly pointed out, the ten signs certainly address Immersion rather than sprinkling or pouring baptism. That's why I addressed it as "Reformed" and will try to develop a Lutheran viewpoint soon. However, most Lutheran baptisms are sprinkling babies--and not much fodder for humor there! If anyone wants to contribute, let's see if we CAN do a "Ten Signs of a Bad Baptism--Lutheran Style!"

... start from scratch (not to be confused with Old Scratch) on some other church events or components thereof: Sermon, wedding, funeral (That could be playing with fire.), church governing board meeting (I don't know all the synonyms for that.), potluck, adult Sunday School class, ...

Hmmm. I don't know, Dan, sounds like what you propose is more in line with YOUR topic. I don't want to step on toes!

Speaking of funerals and playing with fire, my wife thinks Chrysler's PT Cruiser looks like a hearse. Odd way to look at it. But recently I saw one with a flame paint job and was wondering, if that WERE a hearse, and I looked at my dead body being transported in that, I guess I'd have some worrying to do, eh?

[Dan assumes a look of dignity -- a rash assumption, perhaps, but let it pass -- and intones:] Humor is every Christian's business.

Serially, though, that might make several good articles, and I think there's enough possibilities to go around. My toes are well-protected, though I appreciate the thoughtfulness.

As for the flaming hearse idea, well, your body might be handled by those who know you not, and in some cases might not even know your Lord. So, if you look back at all that from realms of light, you'll be able to think, "Wrong guess, guys. Wow! Good taste sure went to h___ fast since I left that world!" And as son David sometimes says, "No worries."

Basically, you knew that, right? You were just setting up a rousing old-fashioned Gospel affirmation. Well done.
