» Sheol83 - Pain Medications Thank you for someone finally speaking out about those of us who have to take the medications to survive another day, with some sort of dignity. I have had to take them for only a short time, and have met many that believe we all can live without pain medications. I only wish this were true. I am glad someone finally pointed that out to those that don't realize it.-- posted by Sheol83 » scottishgirl - Re: Pain Medications In response to message posted by Sheol83:Hi Sheol! Thank you for your kind words! All I can hope for is that at least one person realizes that pain medications are a tool that we use to get through our daily lives, not an unnecessary crutch that we only want. There is a world of difference between "want" and "need". Thanks, Mickie! I'm glad that you liked the article. You're living proof that the proper pain relief can make the difference between living life and merely surviving it!

They don't seem to understand that the side effects are better than need a wheelchair to get around! We have to put up with enough, there is pain relief available to those of us who need it so we should use it. -- posted by kimmy68 » sharatowne67 - Re: Good article! People who don't have Lupus don't seem to understand and even those who do suffer don't seem to condone the taking of serious pain meds. Well with my Lupus and painful neuropathy, I am fast approaching the inability to walk at all or even wear socks or slippers. The pain was so horrid i was becoming a real grouch(nice word choice) to my family.Since going on pain medications i am more able to function from day to day. i tried to duragesic patch but my skin type would not support the patch and it would be slippery before the end of the first day so i am now on ms contin. i find that it works well and my pain is under control. if i had cancer there would not be any issue surrounding the pain med. why then is there a question just because i happen to have lupus instead. i guess i'm glad i found this site where other people come to talk about their feelings.... just wish i wasn't venting on my first visit. -----oleladee -- posted by oleladee » rhopeful32 - Good article! I use to be one of the ones who did not take any pain medications. for anything. I would just bit my lip and take deep breaths in. Oh,yeah don't forget about the counting to ten also. But now the pain is to strong and last to long. That I have to take pain medicine just to be able to get up in the morning, less long make it throw the day. Some days I still refuse to take the pain medicine because of the fear of addiction. Those are the days I just stay in the bed with heating pads and ice packs. Yes,those are my bad days.-- posted by rhopeful32
