hello I have just had surgery and started taking hydrocodone and now the insides of my hands and the bottom of my feet are itching badly. which brought me to this site. it helped me understand that it is the medicine i am taking. that is the only thing that has changed in my life recently.

I have the same understandable itchy hands & feet that usually starts at night and lately sometimes in the morning. I am trying to relate it to different foods. I know that I do have food alergies but have never had these systoms until a few months ago. I have recently also been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid and I am wondering if that may have any connection. Does anyone else have a thyroid condition. This itchiness is driving me nuts. Lack of sleep is disrupting my life. I would really like to know if it is my diet. I am a big diet pepsi drinker and I am wondering if the aspartame or caffeine may also be a problem. There must be something we all have in commen!!!!

This is even driving me nuts typing this. I have had this for 2 days now. I think it bagan after I vacumed the other night. (see cleaning is bad for your health). we have a vacum where you have to dump out what it picks up in the garbage. I had to stuggle with it a few times and at one point I felt like I was bit. I put some bite stuff on it and shortly then after I began to itch on my palms and the sides of my hands...bottom and sides of my feet. I feel like I am being tortured. I took a benadryl yesteday.... stopped me and the iching. I slept for two hours and was groggy and mean the rest of the time. The top of my hands get blotchy and looks flat and round. also the top of my head and ears itch a tiny bit. What is happening?

I am relieved to see others suffering as I am because my doctor told me this is all in my mind. Like others I have had episodes right after my morning shower, every morning for about 3 weeks. Episodes vary in intensity. Then about 2 days ago, nothing in the morning. Later, around 7 pm it was back. The sensation at first is a tingling with mild needle sharp pains on the top of my feet. Visually I find nothing on the skin, until I start scratching. Even rubbing makes the sensation move rapidly up my arms and legs, and also increases the sensation by leaps and bounds. On the days when the feeling is at first lighter than on other days I find if I can avoid touching my skin, the pain will go away in half an hour or less, but most of the time I'm not this lucky. I take Allegra 180, which has been part of my daily regimen for almost a year. So this doesn't seem to be a reaction to my usual allergies, like mold or grasses for example. Nothing topical helps. In fact, applying the topical solution makes it worse, probably because I'm rubbing the skin?? Now days I take 1 dose of Benadryl and this will handle it. I don't like taking the drug because of how it effects me. After a short time I know if I have to take another dose. At this point I'm so drugged I can't function. I live in the Northwest but this seems to have nothing to do with it as I see many of you live in other parts of the world. I've had this problem pop up now and then in years past but never like this and never for this long. I can't help but wonder what I've missed that might be causing it. Do you think the formulas have changed for drugs we take for lupus? I've left messages for doctors telling them of this message chain in the hopes they will consider possibilities for my problem outside of my mental state. Thank you all of you for your candid information. I'll post again as I come across new info.

I too have itchy hands and feet. It happens mostly at night, but I have had some episodes during the day. It's just a very uncomfortable itching in the palms of my hands and on the bottom, sides and tops of my feet. It seems that no amount of scratching or moisturizers gets rid of it. Very annoying and worrisome.

This is the third time I've woke up at 3:00 a.m. with a burning, tingling sensation starting in my hands. It soon starts itching and spreading and, so far, has went to my elbows and from my feet to my knees. My hands itch worse and there's no sign of anything - just this horrible itching. I've tried creams & none have helped. It seems it just wears off after about 4-6 hrs. It's driving me crazy from the itch and loss of sleep. I've done nothing or used anything unusual or different. Can anyone help?

I have just started this crazy itching this winter. I have always had very sensitive skin, but this is horrible!!!!! Always late afternoon to nighttime, on my feet... I've never experienced anything like it. I was starting to really worry, until I google searched and found out there were others suffering too. I just took some claratin, since the general consensus is that antihistamines work.....I hope so!!!!!!!

Hi lwwebber,

I had to write as soon as I read your letter. I too, have woken up around 3 am every night for the last two weeks with the worst itching of hands and feet!(so strange) I also get hives after scratching in other areas. Mostly back, arms, legs, sometimes back of neck. The itching moves from one area to another for a few hours then dissapears! It seems crazy but very similar to your predicament. I am young and in good health.(I think)Benadryl has worked but it still comes back. Have you figured out what's happening to you?

Anyone, please write. Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated!
