Itchy hands and feet?

However, he is also on a diuretic. He has problems with his hands and feet being itchy, dry and cracking. We have determined that it is his diuretic. ANY diuretic. He is trying natural diuretic teas now. I don't know if you are on a diuretic, but I thought I would mention it. Good luck.Cyndidi -- posted by mamacujo » Enginator - Re: Itchy Hands In response to Itchy Hands posted by dneal1960:I've had this for all my life (since I can remember and I'm 42 now). I was also prescribed Atarax (hydroxyzine hcl) and Dove soap and lubriderm. The only thing that really helped was the atarax, but it always made me real sleepy. Then I found claritin. Works great! As long as I take it every day, I'm fine. I'm itching right now because I missed two days for some reason (forgetful, I guess). I was hoping that tonight on yahoo I would find a cure for it or put a name to it. Guess not. Just found this site. -- posted by Enginator » Pam2222 - itchy hands and feet I suffer from itchy hands and feet with no hives, bumps, or rash. I've written here before. My doctors do not know what is causing this and I take Benadryl every night at bedtime. This works most of the time. The first time I went to the doctor for my itching, she referred me to a psychiatrist who wanted to put me onprozacc. The psychiatrist thought that maybe the itching was do to stress, but I refused to believe it. I declined theprozacc. This was last fall. Well lately I've been thinking that maybe my psychiatrist is correct. Maybe I'm repressing my stress. In January 2003 I had something so very extremely traumatic happen to me. After this event I went into a severe depression, tookprozacc for a couple months. I decided that I did not want to be onprozacc and started walking every day. I still walk 4-5 miles a day 3-5 days a week. This has become my therapy, plus I have lost 90lbs! I haven't felt depressed for a year and a half. I feel great physically (except for the itching) and mentally! So my question to all of you itchy hands and feet sufferers is: Have any of you had any traumatic events in your life that could be triggering stress-induced itching? I'm not sure if I believe that stress is causing my itching but I am just trying to find any common denominators with all of us. I personally believe that my itching is caused by a circulation problem because the ONLY time I get itching is when I'm in bed lying down. I still am baffled that doctors can't figure this out! I look forward to your responses. Thanks! -- posted by Pam2222 » willo02 - Re: Re: Itchy hands and feet In response to Re: Itchy hands and feet posted by mamacujo:You know it really amazes me that so many people have this problem and apparently the reasons are varied. I'm not on a diuretic but thanks for mentioning this. Since I wrote last I had an urgent visit to my allergist due to a severe hives breakout on my feet. They took some more blood tests and one that no one else had taken was for Thyroid Antibodies.... my results came back way off the scale. My body is producing way too many and they said this could be the result of my itchy hives and welts. They prescribed corticosteroidid drug. The medication has worked but I don't want to stay on this. Unfortunately for me nantihistimineses have helped me. I am not sure what this all means for me but my allergist suggested I see thyroid specialist which I intend to do. I am anxious to see what the Endocrinologist will have to say about all of this. There must be an explanation as to why my body is at war with itself. I will post to the board when I find out more. Maybe it will help others too. -- posted by willo02 » sweetee3 - itchy hands and feet I have had all of the symtoms most of you have had and seen the doctor many many times.MY SYMTOMS. Also i wanted to add in my research For Exzema I have also heard That Freederm is an awesome cure. If you check it out on the internet they show before and after photos. But its expensive. Also I have heard this. People who itch after 3 in the morning. Its usually related to the liver. My father had liver disease and when he had a transplant his sever itching stopped immediately and the doctor told him it was because of his bad liver that caused the severe itching without rashes... Hope this helps. gg-- posted by sweetee3 » sweetee3 - itchy hands and feet. My feet just itch like CRAZY from the ankles down. There's NOTHING visible - no dry skin, rash, bites, hives, nothing. I tried Gold Bond itch medicine and everything else I could think of. The only thing that finally worked was ice packs. It only lasted about 20 minutes, but was really scary. I don't know what would happen if it occurred at work! What the heck could this be?-- posted by BirdieMom » BirdieMom - Itchy Feet In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Itchy Hands and Feet posted by ginger6040:Have you solved the problem? I started out at 150 mg and then after two weeks increased to 300 mg. A week later I started having hives just on my hands and feet. It usually occurs around pm at night. Switched detergent, handsoap, etc. but it did not stop. My husband and I figured out it might be Wellbutrin. I stopped taking Wellbutrin 5 days ago and I am still breaking out in hives. Anyone have any information on the side effects of Wellbutrin?
